Mora and Green firings to impact draft

The Arizona Cardinals fired coach Dennis Green and the Atlanta Falcons fired Jim Mora on Monday. These coaching changes will impact how these teams draft.

The Cardinals with the 5th pick need offensive line and defensive help. Adding to the need for offensive lineman, left tackle Leonard Davis will be a free agent. The Cardinals would love to draft Joe Thomas, but will he be available? Other options include: Alan Branch, Antoine Cason, Darrelle Revis, and Gaines Adams.

The Falcons with the 10th pick need to upgrade the safety and offensive line positions. They also need to decide on Matt Schaub's future. Do they re-sign the restricted free agent or make a trade? At the 10th pick their options include: Laron Landry, Levi Brown, and Reggie Nelson.

Lions and Cardinals Battle for First Overall Pick

The loser of the Cardinals - Lions game on Sunday will have the inside track on the first overall selection in the 2007 NFL draft. If the draft were held today the top five picks would be held by the following teams: Arizona, Detroit, Oakland, Tampa Bay, and Tennessee.

Cardinals Difficult Decision at Number One

If the draft were held today, the Arizona Cardinals would select first overall. So who would they select? The Cardinals certainly don't have a need for WR, RB, or QB; so we have to assume that they would pass on Adrian Peterson, Calvin Johnson, and Brady Quinn. Would they select Joe Thomas, OT, Wisconsin? While that fills a major need, especially with Leonard Davis slated to be a free agent, it doesn't seem like a smart choice. A trade down would be a much better scenario with the Cards stockpiling additional picks.
