Texans 2007 draft debate

The Houston Texans shocked the world last year by passing on Reggie Bush and selecting Mario Williams with the first overall pick. Houston should have a top five pick for the 2007 draft and the debate has already begun on who they should select.

Do they give up on David Carr and take a shot at Brady Quinn? After passing on Bush, do they add a franchise RB like Adrian Peterson? Or upgrade their defense again with Gaines Adams?

Peterson looks to be the obvious choice, however if Kubiak follows his blueprint from his days as the Denver OC, running back will never be a high selection. Instead he'll choose to develop a low-round RB to fit his system. All his 1000 yd backs were drafted in the 4th round or later, except for one. Terrell Davis (6th Rd), Mike Anderson (6th Rd), Oladis Gary (4th Rd), Reuben Droughns (FA), Clinton Portis (2nd Rd). It seems unlikely they will give up on Carr, so defense could the choice.

There are lots of holes to fill on this team. Right now, QB and running back do not fall on that list.

I think their biggest need as it has always been is an offensive line. If they dont have a shot at Joe Thomas or Jake Long than the next best thing since no other offensive tackle is worthy of being picked that high should be a defensive tackle like alan branch. The Texans could get a decent OT in the second round if not LB.

Thomas would be a nice fit and answer the Texans need at LT for many years to come. It was too bad Spencer got injured so early, he looks like a comer.

Jeez! How about giving David Carr some protection. Sack after sack and hurry up after hurry up screams for an improvement in the offensive line.

it will be peterson, if available, and he most likely will be barring any trades. before davis went down this year, the texans were favored to take bush last year before taking mario williams. this year, they have the opportunity to take the best rb on the board in peterson. despite his broken collarbone this year, he still is a "franchise" back, which bush isn't even considered to be one. so there' my take.

1.OT
2.DT
3.DE
4.CB
5.WR
If the texans can acquire one of the several standout offensive tackles in this years draft, and then acquire a quality DT in the second round, you will be looking at a MCUH improved team.
