2014 NFL Mock Draft

By: Robert Davis | Updated: 1/25

  1. Houston - Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville
Blake Bortles and Johnny Manziel are going to generate a lot of hype but Bridgewater is the best pure passer of the group. His polish, poise, and maturity give him the nod here.

  2. St Louis(Was) - Jake Matthews, OT, Texas AM
The Rams will likely get a lot of offers for this pick, with teams looking to move up for a QB or Clowney. But if they stay with this pick, they will likely select Matthews, to ensure Sam Bradford gets the protection he needs. Jake Long suffered an injury that may have him less than 100% on opening day, and Rodger Saffold is a free agent.

  3. Jacksonville Jadaveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina
A premium pass rusher is something the Jags have searched for for years. He may fall into their lap this year.

  4. Cleveland - Blake Bortles, QB, Central Florida
The Browns have to address the QB situation, and they should have their pick of Bortles or Manziel. Questionable size and decision making for Manziel raise red flags, and the possibility of having the next Roethlisberger or Luck is too much for the Browns to pass on.

  5. Oakland - Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson
Watkins is a game breaker on offense, and the Raiders are in dire need of one. Anthony Barr would make a lot of sense, but wideouts that can change the game are becoming more and more coveted.

  6. Atlanta - Anthony Barr, LB, UCLA
Barr is a big play machine off the edge, that has potential as an all around playmaker. The Falcons would love to add him to their front seven, giving them a new look immediately.

  7. Tampa Bay - Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn
Robinson may have the most potential of any tackle in the draft, and the Bucs could use an upgrade on the offensive line. Franchise left tackles donÕt come around very often, and Robinson fits the profile.

  8. Minnesota - Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas AM
There may not be a more talked about prospect as the draft approaches, because opinions vary greatly on him. The combine will say a lot about his actual size, which will go a long way in deciding where he ends up. But the playmaking ability cannot be denied at the Vikings are in dire need of it at the QB position.

  9. Buffalo - Khalil Mack, LB, Buffalo
This pick just makes too much sense. Mack is the type of guy you will never take off the field, and the Bills have a need at the position. They havenÕt had to go far to scout him, either.

  10. Detroit - Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma St.
The corner position has given the Lions trouble in recent years. They have resisted the urge to pop for a corner in the first round, but this time they go for it. Gilbert has all the tools to be a star, he just has to do it consistently.

  11. Tennessee - Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan
Jake Locker has had trouble staying healthy, and the the Titans could use some youth at tackle. Lewan has the ability to play on both sides, but may start out on the right side, as Locker gets one more chance to establish himself.

  12. NY Giants - Cyrus Kouandjio, OL, Alabama
This may be a bit of a reach, because Kouandjio has some developing to do. But the Giants line is in dire need of help, and Kouandjio has the ability to play a number of positions. That versatility will help them in the short term, and eventually, he may end up at left tackle.

  13. St. Louis - Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama
This is another pick that may be a bit early, and what the Rams do with their first pick will influence this one. The safety crop is weak this year, so the Rams make sure they get their man in this scenario, taking Clinton-Dix off the board.

  14. Chicago - Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida St.
The interior line was a problem for the Bears this year, with Henry Melton being lost for the year to an injury. HeÕs a free agent, and no lock to return, but more talented is also needed. Jernigan is a force against the run, but has tremendous quickness and agility for an interior linemen as well.

  15. Pittsburgh - Louis Nix, DT, Notre Dame
Nix is the prototype at nose tackle. He cannot be blocked by a single man, can clog running lanes by himself, and can collapse the pocket. The Steelers would love to have an anchor on the inside that they have lacked since Casey HamptonÕs prime.

  16. Baltimore - Marqise Lee, WR, USC
If the Ravens have any hope of getting back to the playoffs and being a contender, they need more playmakers on offense. Lee was the top WR on most boards entering the year, but nagging injuries and a case of the drops caused him to slide a bit.

  17. Dallas - Aaron Donald, DT, Pitt
There was some talk that Donald might not reach the 6Õ mark, but he checked in at 6Õ1 290lbs at the Senior Bowl. Not imposing size, but the quickness and ability to explode off the line and into the backfield is special. ThatÕs exactly what the Cowboys need for Monte KiffinÕs defense to be effective.

  18. NY Jets - Mike Evans, WR, Texas AM
The Jets would love to add a playmaker like Lee to the offense but he goes two picks earlier. Instead they land the massive Evans, who will give Geno Smith a big, dependable target.

  19. Miami - Zack Martin, OL, Notre Dame
The issues with the Dolphins go deep, and they will be down two offensive linemen from opening day 2013. Enter Martin, whoÕs been a standout at left tackle for the Irish, but some question his length to stay on the left side. If he canÕt stick at left tackle, he has the skills to be a standout at guard or right tackle. That versatility is something the Dolphins need as their offensive line is a mess.

  20. Arizona - Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan St.
Someone capable of sticking at the left tackle spot would be the ideal fit here, but the top options are off the board. So the Cards go back to their defense, and continue to add to their talented secondary. Patrick Peterson, Dennard, and a healthy Tyrann Mathieu may be one of the most exciting secondaries in the league.

  21. Green Bay - Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina
The unfortunate injury to Jermicheal Finley may have forced the Packers hand here. The injury and pending free agency force the Pack to look for a playmaker here. Ebron will be an upgrade, and give the Packers a big target that can still make big plays.

  22. Philadelphia - Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville
The Eagles continue to look to add to their secondary with this pick. Pryor is a standout at safety, and there is a big dropoff after him and Clinton-Dix, so teams looking for safety help will be grabbing them early.

  23. Kansas City - Stephon Tuitt, DL, Notre Dame
Adding some speed and playmaking to the receiving corps will be a priority this off season, but the Chiefs wonÕt ignore the defense. Tuitt would be a great fit up front and is a steal at this point of the draft.

  24. Cincinnati - CJ Moseley, LB, Alabama
This would be an absolute steal at this point. MoseleyÕs versatility and leadership ability should get him taken sooner, but strange things happen on draft day. The Bengals need some speed and range at linebacker, and they get that and more here.

  25. San Diego - Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio St.
The secondary continues to be a problem for the Bolts. Roby has a tremendous blend of physical tools, but he can be a bit undisciplined at times. HeÕll give up some plays, but he will make plays as well. If the light goes on and he can stay within himself, he could be the best corner out of this draft.

  26. Cleveland(Indy) - Jason Verrett, CB, TCU
The league is becoming more high scoring, and it is increasing the need for defensive backs that can make plays. Verrett is one of the better cover men in this draft and would be a great #2 to Joe Haden.

  27. New Orleans - Kony Ealy, DL/LB, Missouri
Adding some more talent off the edge is going to be priority #1 for the Saints this off season. Ealy has great size, but is also a great athlete that could be a force as a 3-4 OLB. He has the size to move up and play with his hand down as well in obvious passing situations.

  28. Carolina - Antonio Richardson, OT, Tennessee
A wideout would make a lot of sense here, but Cam Newton is the franchise. You have to give him protection and keep him healthy. Richardson could play either tackle position, depending on what the Panthers do this off season.

  29. San Francisco - RaÕShede Hageman, DT, Minnesota
Hageman might be, pound for pound, the best athlete in the draft. He is a good football player that is still improving, and he could be a force in a couple years. HeÕd provide depth immediately, but learning from Justin Smith could help make him reach his full potential.

  30. New England - Jace Amaro, TE, Texas Tech
The Pats offense just isnÕt the same without a playmaker at the TE position. The team is use to two standouts, and they began and finished the year without a TE capable of making plays. Amaro would be a great flex tight end alongside Gronk, but could also give them a threat at the position in case he is not healthy to start the year.

  31. Denver - Lamarcus Joyner, DB, Florida St.
The Broncos are in win now mode as long as Peyton Manning is around. Joyner is a versatile performer in the secondary, capable of playing corner or safety. The secondary has taken a hit this year with age and injuries, and infusing youth is a must this off season.

  32. Seattle - Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Florida St.
What Seattle has been able to accomplish on offense with very little at the WR position has been amazing. Benjamin brings a massive frame and tremendous athleticism to the position. HeÕs a better vertical threat than you would expect from a receiver 230lbs, and that ability could go a long way towards opening up the offense for the running game.
