Vikings to trade for Larry Fitzgerald?

St. Paul Pioneer Press is reporting the Vikings may try and boost season ticket sales by trying to acquire Minneapolis native Larry Fitzgerald.

The deal would send the Vikings first pick, 7th overall, and players to the Cardinals in exchange for Fitzgerald.

This seems pretty far fetched. Why would the Cardinals want to trade Fitzgerald? Plus the Vikings could make a bigger splash trading up in the draft to grab Calvin Johnson.

Minnesota should trade Troy Williamson and their 2nd round pick for Larry Fitzgerald. They should not trade their 1st round pick for him.

This is not a bad idea for the Vikings. Larry Fitzgerald is one of the best college receivers of all time and would provide a great boost to an astoundingly mediocre corps of WRs in Minnesota.

It makes more sense than to trade up for Calvin Johnson because at least we know Fitz can get it done at the NFL level, and no draft prospect is bust-proof.

The only far-fetched thing about this is whether or not the Cardinals would go for such a trade. It wouldn't be TERRIBLE for them, seeing as they have Anquan Boldin and they can upgrade their woeful offensive line, and then get a defensive stud to boot, but they wouldn't bite. Losing a guy like Larry Fitzgerald is just too unattractive of an idea to take up this trade.

There's absolutely no way the Cardinals do this trade. Fitzgerald has huge potential and is a key component of their offensive plan with Leinart and Bolden and now offensive guru Ken Whisenhunt as head coach.

Line, line, line....Cardinals need OL. Keep Fitz (stud) and draft O-linemen. They're not far off from a wide open NFC. Vikes need DB's first, then WR's to contend.

But how sick would they be if they were able to get Joe Thomas and possibly a player like Gaines Adams. Giving up a young Pro-Bowl WR to instantly improve both sides of the trenches would be very nice. I think Leinart would still do well with Boldin and Edge. They could bring in a speedy WR in the 2nd or 3rd round with Johnnie Lee Higgins, Chauncey Stuckey, or Paul Williams. Even though it probably won't happen, it's still nice to think of what could have been....

Sorry but this isn't Madden, Fitzgerald is proven and college players aren't. Maybe if the vikes had the number 2 pick that would almost guarantee them Joe Thomas this trade would have a shot, but they don't. Sorry!

Ok, honestly, the Vikings will never be able to move Williamson because he is so terrible. You can't sell his name anywhere, so trading for Fitzgerald is out of the question unless they want to send multiple draft picks.

The trade up with Cleveland wouldn't be a sure thing for C. Johnson cause if the Browns lose the coin flip the Buccaneers will take C. Johnson at the 3rd spot. The Raiders might also take C. Johnson if they get rid of R. Moss.

If I was the Vikings I would focus on picking up Carr from the Texans, or maybe bring in Garcia to steer the ship before T. Jackson. Then address WR and Secondary in the Draft. There are some good receivers in this draft other then C. Johnson. Like D. Jarrett, T. Ginn Jr., R. Meachem, and S. Rice.

I am a huge Vikes fan, but times are hard right now. I mean there is not a single player on the current roster that I would want there jersey, and thats just sad. You have to think of this as a business right now and realize that if they want a new stadium then they better sell out the dome next year. to do that they need some impact players to get behind. A trade for Fitz, or a trade up to get calvin johnson would do that. I agree that jackson is not ready for the NFL, so I think that the Vikes should trade there 3rd round pick for David Carr. Carr will be good with our line protecting him. Imagine Carr with our O line and running game passing to Fitz or Calvin Johnson. With our defense that is really all we need. The Vikings fans would get excited again and that would only help them get a new stadium and ensure that they stay put in Minnesota!

Vikes should cut some of the overratedness from there team by releasing Sharper, B. Johnson, and Smoot. Convert Kleinsauser into the mascot (you can't deny he doesn't have the look). Use draft picks to fill the holes. Use the 7th rounder to select a cloning scientist so they can clone Winfield about 50 times, as he is there only really good player.

For those of you who think that Fitzgerald is not worth pick #7, i think you are crazy. Just incase you didnt know this, he was picked higher than that origionally!

If i was arizona, i would trade Fitzgerald if the other players/picks in the deal were any two of these:
Marcus Johnson (RT)
Round 3 pick #7
K. Udeze (DE)
Fred Smoot (CB)

I would do any of these trades as well:
Fitzgerald for Bryant McKinnee and round 2 pick #7
Fitzgerald for Pat or Kevin Williams

shoot, if the vikes want fitzie or calvin johnson that bad all they need to do is trade detroit the 7th pick plus maybe darren sharper, maybe a 3rd pick for d-town's #2 pick. detroit needs so much help, and they could still pick up alan branch or lamar woodley at the #7 slot of the draft, instead of settling for joe thomas, who doesnt solve their need for a future quarterback, d line help, linebacker help, or safety help. this trade would take care of 2 of those needs.

Wait a sec... trade darren sharper... overratedness? isn't this the guy who one short year ago had 8 or 9 INT's? ya think that's overrated? And the secondary really isn't that bad. Winfield, sharper are good, and d.smith is decent. towards the end of the season griffen was a stud. WR should be 1st and foremost, c.johnson or d.jarrett... and i agree with you who said troy wouldn't make much for trade bait... cause he can't catch! they need a QB but when the best receiver is...well... travis taylor or billy mcmullen you know they are in big need AND contrary to popular belief vikes don't need any star DB's that bad they just need some depth

Calvin Johnson is out of the picture for you Viking Fans, the next couple years are out of the picture as if you can't tell already, the QB position is fine you got a young prospect, now Williamson yea he sucks, but Dwayne Jarrett will be there for the pick at #7 and he's still damn good so there's no need to worry it takes time that's it, look at my 49ers they're moving back up again. Also ya'll need a Running Back first more than anything else.

I don't think that C. Johnson is giong to be available with the 7th pick. If he is TAKE HIM!

Just a thought, but what about getting Adrian Peterson with the 7th pick and then trade C. Taylor for a lower 1st round. They could go with a TE, WR, or DE with that pick.

Fitzgerald to the Vikings would be a great addition. Take the lower first round pick from the Taylor trade and throw that in with B. McKinnie, and Smoot. The Vikings would then need a LT. Maybe Leonard Davis, he's a FA this year.

minnesota should try and lure samuel out of new england by showing him as much cash as possible. i understand Griffin isnt bad and Winfield and sharper already make a solid backfield, but samuel will put them into an elite ground.
since they are proably the best run defending team in football, imagine QBs forcing throws into a backfield with samuel winfield and sharper.

It would be fine for the vikes if they got rid of their first round pick, because they can't do anything with it except get a DE. Despite popular belief, the vikes don't need a DE, they need a wideout and coach Brad Childress already said he won't take a WR in the first round, they also need linemen, and there's no good linemen around the 7th pick. There's plenty of decent linemen in free agency, but some pretty lame WRs. Fitz would be a nice trade, and even though they probably don't want him, I could see getting rid of troy somehow, cuz he's pretty bad...

This deal make little sense for either team, probably least of all for the Vikes. They have a good core group of players, but it's not like they are one player away from a Super Bowl. Giving up picks and players means you have new "holes" to plug and fewer picks to do it with.

Arizona's main problem is o-line and it would seem they could address that pretty well in the draft. Couple of first day offensive linemen and maybe a free agent signing and they'll actually have the troops in the trenches that will let them utilize their offensive weapons.

Fitz isn't going anywhere, especially not for the garbage mentioned above. One person mentioned the H. Walker trade and that's pretty much what it would take to get a phenom pro bowler. I'd give you Fitz for your first rounder & 3rd rounder this year, 2nd round next year and K. Williams.

DB is a seondary, not primary need for the team. The pass D problems were because of zero upfield movement from the DL, specifically the ends, not poor coverage (though the scheme, that was rarely adjusted, didn't help). They were forced to blitz & did so too often & too predictably.

Let's all face facts here that they're not going to make a splash in FA & will botch the draft again like last year. All this staff does is go after players in FA with ties to Philly or Wisconsin (i.e. that Childress knows because he has zero ability to evaluate talent). The coaching decision last year will set them back a decade after 3-4 horrible drafts.

Wow! What a bunch of instant gratification seeking teenagers there are posting here with Madden game-like trade scenarios that wouldn't happen even if the parties on both sides each just finished off a bottle of vodka!

The Vikings will simply wait for Fitzgerald's rookie contract to expire and sign him as a FA or RFA. For now, they will sign a couple FA WRs and draft one more on Day One, perhaps in round 2. After 2 FA WRs are added, a DE is the likely top draft pick at #7.

some things while they look good on paper just don't have any weight - either of the cardinal receivers would be great to have but not really likely to happen. T Williams I would keep around through camp at least. give him one last chance to work through his skills or lack there of. his trade falue right now is not much if anything. Dwayne Jarrett would be a great pick in the draft for WR. if Childress desides to go that way. what we need is a pass rusher like Victor Abiamiri. send Smoot off somewhere for a second or third round pick. then either in the third or fourth round draft Ben Patrick TE. this guy plyas from my state and watching him play is something special.

1.Smoot must go
2.Erasmus James should follow him out the door.
3.Then, We just draft DJ from USC cause he will be there at #7
4.Unless of course...Adrian Peterson is still there. I love Chester Taylor and all....but we could trade him. AP all the way.
5.I am also a big advocate for grabbing David Carr from the Texans. We could get him for a 3rd or 4th round pick. And we can actually protect him with our line.
6.All this noise about getting rid of Darren Sharper....You have lost your mind. He is the heart and soul of that D after 1 season.
7.Jermaine Wiggins needs to go as well. Love the big guy n all...but he had 1 good year.
8.Greenway needs to see the field this year....or we need another linebacker.
9.Dwight Freeney....Get this dude at all costs. Show him the money. Immediate pressure.
10.Fire Brad Childress and lure Dungy back home. He already won with Indy...I am sure he would consider it.

I don't think it matters if the Vikings trade for Fitzy, or draft ANOTHER receiver with their first round pick. I don't want to hurt your opinionated feelings but, Dennis Green put that team together and "They were what he thought they would be" when he put them together... That is the problem and why Fitzgerald is on his way up to Minnesota. He's a Minnesotan and a pipe dream for the Cardinals to try to keep. They need to start from the ground up next year with an offensive line and a defense that acts like more than fishing line in the wind...

The Fitzgerald trade would benefit both sides due to the fact we have plenty of personnel they need and all we are asking for is one player, I think the Vikings move on Fitz. and Stallworth offensively and at least through some numbers at someone like Freeney... They are two positions away from being a true play off contender in the next two years, a GOOD wide receiver base, and I say good because that's all they need to be at this point, and a Great Pass Rusher, Defense wins football games, the bears proved that last year but they also proved that you need at least some offense to back them up... We make the Fitzgerald trade for Williamson, Moore, and a second round pick and I think we've got him... The rest would be all about team needs for the other two teams.

I study football and analyze it pretty much all day every day due to the nature of my job... Trust me when I say; If Minnesota wants rings and a new stadium this is the kind of trade that needs to take place.

This is just stupid. The Cardinals will not trade Fitzgerald, and wouldn't even think about taking Troy Williamson and anything for him. People seem to forget, Randy Moss does not want to go back to Minnesota, even if he does want out of Oakland. Another thing people don't notice is that Ted Ginn is almost exactly like Williamson, small, quick, and fast. And Dwayne Jarrett is a bit of a reach at 7. Most drafts have him starting to around 16.

It took a long time, but someone FINALLY mentioned the Vikes biggest problem, their coach. Childress is TERRIBLE. He doesn't inspire, he doesn't communicate with his players (I know its a cliche, but you can't get your players to "buy in" to your program if you never bother to talk to them), he is not smart, he can't make adjustments to a game plan, (heck, he only knows one game plan), he is too stubborn to learn from his mistakes, he got rid of the only decent receiver the vikes had last year because of some very mild comments to the press... ok, I guess I have made my point. Bottom line the Vikings are going to stink for several years... 2-3 more years with Childress as coach, and another year or two while a new coach digs us out of the hole Childress leaves behind.

y is everyone wanting to trade Darren Sharper? Sure he is gettin a little old, but this guy has the most interceptions out of anyone in the league since 2000. He had 9 interceptions 2 years ago. The Cards wouldnt want williamson. Trade the 7th pick overall for Fitz., and then the cards still have a stout receiving corps and they have 2 picks in the top seven picks. That sounds reasonable to me.

Seriously?

Listen, there's about a .01% chance (see below) that the Cards trade Larry Fitzgerald for the #7 pick. I know it's a nice thought, but 'Zona needs help in the trenches, and with the right scouting and coaching, you don't need high picks to help yourself there. Even the most "sure thing" linemen can falter in the wrong system (see: Robert Gallery). In the weak NFC West, there's no reason to lose talent anywhere on the field if you don't have to.

That said, if (and that's a huge if) Calvin Johnson falls past Tampa at #4, the Cards might be inclined to make a move like this, with the flexibility to get more for their money's worth for Larry and then pick up a replacement AND have another top 7 pick.... but we wouldn't know if any of this can happen until draft day.

it could be possible with the release of jermaine wiggins, mewelde moore, and darren sharper. as much as i would hate to see wiggins go, he just doesnt fit the vikes offense anymore and with sharper nearing the end of his career, this could possibly entice the cards

First, just forget about the Fitzgerald trade, its never going to happen. Second, trading up for Calvin Johnson would make perfect sense. The Browns are sitting on the third overall pick and are likely to draft Peterson. The teams in-between the Vikes and Browns all have feature backs(Cadillac,James,& Portis) so it shouldn't take much to make a deal with Cleveland, as Peterson should be available at 7th, leaving us open to draft Calvin Johnson 3rd
