Gresham showed his big play potential as a freshman, catching eight passes for 161 yards and a touchdown. As a sophomore last year, he emerged as one of the best big play TE’s in the nation. He hauled in 37 passes for 578 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Strengths
Gresham is a nightmare for defenders to cover. He has a fantastic frame, with excellent height and a lean body. He is a phenomenal athlete with very long arms, showing the ability to catch the ball away from his body. His combination of height, wingpspan, and body control allow him to dominate in the red zone, and that is a skill that should carry over to the NFL. Gresham should be a fine receiving tight end in the NFL because of his all around ability. He also shows willingness as a blocker, and is surprisingly effective as a blocker. Most players as athletic and talented as a receiver do not do much in the form of blocking.
Weaknesses
Gresham is a talented all around tight end but does need some work. He has a great frame but still appears lean and could add a few pounds to his frame. He is a solid blocker, but that extra bulk should him prepare him to match up better at the point of attack in the NFL as a run blocker.
Future
Jermaine Gresham is only a junior, but he is the best tight end in the draft should he declare. His ability as a receiver is going to make him a great option in the passing game, and his size should allow him to be a factor as a blocker. There is not much left for him to prove in college, so look for him to declare and be the first tight end selected in April.
