Minnesota Vikings Team Needs

By: Greg Davis

Defensive Line
The Vikings have plenty of depth at the defensive end position, and the signing of Ellis Wyms, likely to play mainly tackle, adds even more depth to the defensive line mix, but the team would really benefit from having another top talent who can provide a consistent pass rush and free up others on the line to get more done as well. An injury to Erasmus James that has left the team with questions and the fact that Kenechi Udeze will miss the entire season because of leukemia means that Minnesota will look to add another helping hand in an attempt to improve a line that has a fair amount of potential overall.

Offensive Line
Minnesota may also look to acquire another offensive tackle. With Ryan Cook being upgradeable and Bryant McKinnie facing legal issues, the Vikes may want to add insurance at the position in case McKinnie is out for a significant chunk of time, and in the hopes that Cook may be challenged a for his role. Artis Hicks would likely be the current fill-in if a tackle had to miss time for any reason, so it would be in the best interest of the team to find other options where possible.

Tight End
There are decent role players at tight end, but not the downfield threat that might open up the passing offense for quarterback Tarvaris Jackson a bit more. A tight end that has decent size, can get open, and can create mismatches would provide Jackson with an important safety valve type of receiver. It would further help compliment a stellar rushing attack.

Quarterback
Jackson will certainly be the starter to open the season, but if he plays poorly or is injured, the team would have to rely on Brooks Bollinger, and if possible, that’s an option the team will want to improve. Bollinger isn’t much in the way of finding success, so Jackson might benefit from a veteran quarterback. Drafting a quarterback might also be an option, since it would hopefully bring out the best in Jackson and prepare another quarterback just in case.
