Cornerback
At corner, the defensive team needs an upgrade. Dunta Robinson is holding down one spot, but the other is up for grabs. Jacques Reeves was signed in hopes of bringing decent depth to the position, but there is still a need for additional talent, and a cover corner would go a long way in improving the defense as a whole and complimenting the player that Robinson has become. An early draft pick may go towards rectifying the situation.
Safety
Houston also needs to eventually replace C.C. Brown in a weak secondary. The free safety has been a liability in coverage and has been partially to blame for the lack of production in the secondary. If they can’t find help in free agency, then they may pick up a safety during the draft, but either way, the chances of them making a move here are pretty good.
Offensive Line
Offensively, needs continue to exist on the offensive line. That line provided decent time for the passing game to function in 2007, but the quarterback position also took some tough hits, forcing quarterback Matt Schaub to miss some playing time. The talent at the left tackle position is lacking, with Ephraim Salaam currently holding the starting role. The team has to look for depth and hope that they can find a left tackle for the future with an early pick.
Running Back
A minor need exists at running back. The team signed Chris Brown in hopes of having a different type of back to work for carries along with Ahman Green and Darius Walker, but the team might take a chance on a back in the draft if they feel they can pick up talent that may translate into positive dividends in the future.
