Safety
Philadelphia has to address issues all around the defense. Strong safety Sean Considine played in eight games before hitting the injured reserve. Quintin Mikell, Considine’s replacement, has somewhat limited NFL experience. That’s coupled with the fact that free safety Brian Dawkins is going to turn 35 during the upcoming season. The Eagles have to bring in a safety (or two) who can develop into Dawkins’ replacement and will be an athletic playmaker.
Defensive Line
The defensive line is undersized somewhat at the end position, and the group has room to improve. Trent Cole had a solid season off of the end in ’07, but adding depth and talent along the line would help alleviate some of the pressure on the current bunch. There’s talent on the line, but with Juqua Thomas and Chris Clemons lacking the talent and size you’d like to see at the end position, it doesn’t hurt to add more.
Offensive Line
The offensive tackle spot is one of need in Philadelphia, as it is with several other teams at the moment. Jon Runyan and William Thomas are both in their mid-30s, and the depth at the position can be improved as well. Winston Justice is around and could be looked to for the future, but adding another tackle to the mix would still be a good idea.
Wide Receiver
It seems as though the Eagles can use wide receiver help almost every season, and while Kevin Curtis was solid last season, he also struggled at times. Reggie Brown hasn’t raised his game to the next level, and the rest of the unit is a mediocre group. Curtis was lost at times because of his lack of size and the fact that he relied on his speed most of the time to try and create space. The offense as a whole needs another receiver who can get open, make plays, and use his size in the red zone.
