Defensive back
San Diego may look to add another young safety with Clinton Hart thirty years of age and Marlon McCree being gone. Bringing in depth will be a useful and proactive move. At cornerback, Antonio Cromartie has begun to shine. Quentin Jammer has played well enough to keep his job for now, but Drayton Florence is another secondary player who has left. There will need to be depth added to the position and the secondary overall should be upgraded.
Offensive Line
The Chargers hit a home run with Marcus McNeill during the draft last year, and they’ll hope to do so again this year. There is some depth on the line, but the team could really benefit from having another quality player available if need be. If they pass on a lineman with their top pick, they have had success in finding good talent outside of the first round, and they may employ that strategy again with their late picks.
Running Back
Losing running back Michael Turner was a step backwards for the team. While it shouldn’t ruin their chances of being successful, it was a piece that allowed LaDainian Tomlinson to rest and allow another back to take some of the pressure off. Tomlinson has to be protected by the franchise, and bringing in a back in the late round who can spell Tomlinson and do some decent things on the field is likely in the plans. The Chargers will hope to find their next “Turner” come draft weekend.
