Defensive Line
The defensive tackle position has seen little in the way of effectiveness. The starting pair last season was unable to help stop the run up the middle, and with Marcus Thomas and Alvin McKinley currently at the top of the depth chart, a player who can hopefully step in immediately needs to be acquired in the draft. The Broncos may use their first pick to get a player who can fill that need and improve the defense up front.
Offensive Line
Denver will also need to upgrade the line on the other side of the ball. A mid-round pick being spent on an offensive tackle would be a push in the right direction for the unit. It would allow the team to work with what they have and develop young talent for the purpose of success in the future. The depth would be positive and would serve as insurance heading into next season.
Wide Receiver
At wide receiver, Brandon Marshall had a breakthrough season in ’07, and he’ll look to build upon that this coming season. A freak arm injury will take some time to recover, but it won’t affect his availability to open the season. Brandon Stokley will also aid the receiving unit, but after those two there are questions as to who might step up and produce. Stokley is best suited to play the role of a slot receiver, and Denver can’t solely rely on Keary Colbert, so they’ll need to add another player at the position in hopes of finding a possible starter.
Running Back
Travis Henry will turn 30 this coming season, a number that usually means problems for running backs. Selvin Young isn’t a sure thing and neither is Andre Hall. The Broncos could use a mid-round or late-round pick to try and snag a running back to work into the offense and hope it pays off as it has in the past. In any case, Denver will be looking for security at the position because of Henry’s age and history.
