Title says most of it. I came across this the other day and was wondering what you guys think of this deal.
I'm a Colts fan to the bones, and when I read that T-Bay could be interested in Edge for Ronde Barber and a draft pick it got me thinking.
T-Bay needs to clear about 5 million before the draft yet, they need a RB desperatley I believe, and Barber would be great in indy, let alone on most teams.
Is this a possibility or not something to think too far into?
I also realize that T-bay has a high 1st round pick, but could this deal relieve a few issues they have?
Thanks! |

if Tampa has cap problems, how does taking an 8 million dollar RB help any? ...Not to mention the probable cap hit for trading Barber???
No one wants Edge because he wants Clinton Portis money (stupid of WAS to pay that kind of money to 1 guy if you ask me, even though I actually like Portis)
I think everyone likes Edge to an extent, but he just wants WAY too much money, and most teams are finding that RBs are like car tires, sure there are some better than others, but why pay 3x as much for a tire that is only about 1.5x better at most?
Draft an RB in the late first, or 2nd-4th rounds and you can usually find a steal that you can pay hardly anything, and still get a decent run game (especially if you have good offensive linemen)
RBs are going to start taking a negative salary trend because teams are sick of these guys thinking they deserve 5+ mil a year, when they play perhaps one of the most injury prone positions, and consistantly you can draft rookie RBs who can practically get you similar results on the field. _________________

trading one cap hit for another isn't going to clear much space, besides d is the only thing going for TB right now and barber is a big part of that. with their first round pick they can pick one of the top 3 backs or pick mike williams and draft a rb in the later rounds. to me it would be a bad idea for TB. |

Interesting take on the issue guys, thanks for the replies.
As I said I'm a Colts fan, but Edge kinda has me shaking my head in dissappointment with the current contract.
I really want to see some defence brought in, and what are the colts doing?
Amazingly enough they go and sign former Cleveland Brown OL Gonzalez.
I know we lost a great player in DeMulling but geez is this really our priority right now?!?
I agree with T-Bay just drafting a young cheap RB in the draft over trading for Edge, I was just curious on what the general publics take was on that offer if it were actually proposed. |

Something else... what did you expect the draft pick to be?
Because Indy has openly said they dont even expect a first round pick... that means ALREADY they'll take a 2nd rounder, maybe even a 3rd or 4th rounder if they cant find anyone and Edge gets irritated and wants to sit out.
So, I dont really even see why TB would trade Barber at all, when they can just throw a 2nd round pick at the colts and get Edge. _________________

I'm actually very surprised how close the poll is. Considering the opinions expressed I really thought "No" would be a landslide, yet it's been back and forth and 50/50 for most of the time. |

See i would say yes BUT the cap hit would screw both teams over. If they both had a good ammount of cap and could afford it then yes. Cause the Bucs witht he 5th pick could draft Mike Williams if he is there and then get a CB in the 2nd since this year is deep in the CB position |

no. indy would take just a draft pick. and i doubt they want rondes contract. they waste all their money on o then use the draft picks on d. thats pretty much the only way they can afford it. _________________
