If there are still some questions about Perry's health, and also to add some quality depth, why not take a flyer on William Green from the Browns?

Now that they have traded for Droughns, they should release him soon and he could be had for cheap given his character issues. If he is a bust or is a headcase, the Bengals aren't out anything. If Perry is healthy and Green does okay, then maybe you can trade Green for a draft pick during the preseason. If Perry is a bust or is still hurt, then you have a quality back up.

Just a thought but it seems to make some sense.

I respect the fact that you were thinking of this but William Green is a bust. As far as the Bengals, Rudi has proven to be durable and personally, and I think I speak for Bengals fans, I would rather have Kenny Watson, a guy who has had to work very hard for his role, as my backup if Perry is hurt.

They would draft a RB before paying Green the money he's asking for.

The Bengals would never do it unless he asked for league minimum. We have Rudi long term, Chris Perry will get a shot if he can stay healthy, and Mavrin likes Kenny Watson as the change of pace back and special teamer.

He has a very small cap number, and two years left on his contract. Since he hasn't produced very much, escalators in his contract were not reached, making him much cheaper than your typical 1st round RB. We won't release him outright.

In the recent past, the Browns have released too many players without getting fair trade value for them. Don't look for Phil Savage to repeat the Browns' recent history.

I don't know where anyone gets the idea that he's all about the money. He didn't hold out or demand contract renegotiations or anything like that. The fact that he has two strikes against him with the NFL's substance abuse policy almost guarantees he'll be playing for the league minimum salary.
