If you guys haven't realize, I make a new team everytime a signing effects the Vikings.
Trade- Micheal Bennet, this years 3rd, and next years 2nd for Edgerrin James
Sign- Brad Johnson

Draft- Troy Williamson with #18
Draft- Mike Nugent with 2nd
Draft- Jerome Mathis with 4th
Draft- O-Line Depth with 5th

That would look like this then

RB- Edgerrin James, Onterio Smith, Mewelde Moore, Moe Williams
FB- Jimmy Kleinsasser
WR- Nate Burleson, Troy Williamson, Marcus Robinson, Jerome Mathis, Travis Taylor
TE- Jermaine Wiggins
OT- Bryant McKinnie, Mike Rosenthal
OG- Chris Liwienski, David Dixon
C- Matt Birk
DE- Kenny Mixon, Kenechi Udeze, Lance Johnstone, Darrion Scott
DT- Kevin Williams, Pat Williams, Spencer Johnson
LB- Derrick Johnson, Napoleon Harris, E.J. Henderson, Dontarrious Thomas
CB- Antoine Winfield, Fred Smoot, Brian Williams, Ken Irvin
S- Darren Sharper, Corey Chavous, Brian Russell
K- Mike Nugent
P- Darren Bennet

The Vikes have stated they have no interest in Edge. He wants a contract similar to the one Randy Moss signed a few years ago, around 9 million a year with 15-20 million guarenteed. He is better than what we have, but I'd rather go with Smith and Moore at less than a million a year, save the draft pick, and spend the money some place else.
That said, I think Smith and Moore are below average starting RBs. |

I am sure Smith is a 1300 yard back with 500 recieving if he got consistent playing time and no injuries/suspensions. Theres no need for James. We got 2 guys behind Bennett who is a proven 1000 yard rusher who still need a chance. We need to trade Bennet and a draft pick for Boldin, and no one else. _________________ Equal Opportunity Hater

mossburg speaks the truth:

I like Smith too, but the Vikes aren't going to trade Bennett away to make Smith the #1 back. He's one toke away from a big suspension and the Vikes are too smart to put themselves in such a vulnerable situation. So, if the Vikes do trade Bennett, look for them to take a RB in the draft.
That actually wouldn't surprise me at all. Although, I've heard some rumors that the Vikes are gonna go into this year with Bennett as the number 1 back. Reason being - with a healthy Kleinsasser and Rosenthal, Bennett's speed to the outside makes him a more serious threat.
All I know is the RB situation is very screwy right now. |

do we really know whether smith is still a pothead or not? i mean, he got caught and suspended, did that scare him away from it or not?
i think folks might be assuming things we don't know for sure.
smith is a good runner and can catch well out of the backfield, he's plenty dangerous for the vikes. or their opponents, actually. |

| Isn't everyone in the NFL one toke away from a suspension? I mean half these guys likely smoke , it's just a matter of not getting caught. |

well, my point is that it seems a lot of folks have given up on onterrio smith because of his pot suspension last year. for all we know, he's seen the light and won't be a bad boy any more.
i think he's a great talent and if just got more downs would grow to a formible threat. he's versatile and that makes defenses step back a step and wait. |

I tend to agree with Serick. Smith is a better all-around back than Bennett, and both have the capacity to be every bit as good as Edge in our system. The one advantage Bennett brings is homerun speed, but he's either not real tough or just fragile; whereas, Smith is pretty tough and shifty.
So, back to the headline. The Vikes have picked up Travis Taylor, and Brad Johnson would look good in purple again. Dixon is a good sign. As for draft choices, I like the plan, except we keep our 3rd and possibly pick up another, if we trade either Bennett or Smith. So, ya now have two 3rd rounders to use. What's the adjustment there?
By the way, we don't need Jason White. With Brad Johnson and Shaun Hill, we're set at QB. Use the pick for a punter to challenge the other Bennett or get some Depth. |

hrmmm...If Smith did tend to get suspended again, I think Mewelde Moore is a great fill-in or even starter. If you happened to watch the games that he was the starter, he was a very good pass catcher out of the backfield and also a consistent runner. _________________
