What do you guys think all these teams are switching to the 3-4?
Is it because NE has won with it?
Is it copycatting?
Or do people think that with more LB you can stop these high powered offenses easier? or what?

Dallas, Cleveland (Cronell i know), Miami, & Oakland, I know all are using it, or going to this comming season. I think Atlanta and Denver are going to also.

What teams are "switching" besides the ones with new head coaches? i believe it's the head coaches belief and philosophy of which to run. Pretty much a 3-4 your just covering the center with a NT, it would be the same concept as a 5-2 (in high school ball) where the 4-3 has the DE in a 3 point stance and utilizes the SS. I believe you MUST have the right personell to be successful (as any D) which is why Saban in Miami is bringing in all these different style players. It all comes down to tackling and the people to do it.

I agree with you titangreins but its just crazy how all of a sudden all these teams are switching, for whatever reasons. But yes its all on personal, I agree with that, I dont think a coach; specially a new one; should be locked in on any one kind of def (or Off) he should use his personal to the best of his ability.

It may have something to do with the new contact rule, maybe an extra LB helps?

I think a 3-4 is a superior defense, but it's so much harder to get the right personel to run it. To run a 34 your line must have the right people such as a huge NT and fairly large DE's. If we were to switch to a 34 then we basically just threw 3 draft picks away. I do believe we will run some 34 in certain situations but not very much. Also in some cases it takes 2-3 years just to get the right people on the team to run the 34 and I don't think we'd want to go through that transition.

Switching to a 3-4 will take alot of rebuilding on the front 7. Especially us. We'll never switch to a 3-4... We dont have the right guys.
I agree 3-4 is great. Its the middle of the feild defense. I think its a better zone defense, maybe even a better run defense. But its just the philosophy of the coach that is the design of a teams defense.

I don't think he'd be a good NT, but he'd be a great DE in a 34.

Carter makes the perfect outside guy in a 3-4 defense and when they go to 4-3 he will be a DT then too.

Carter would suck if hes at NT. Haynesworth would make an excellent NT in a 3-4. Carter is suited for end in a 3-4 but hes goin to be shut down.

Speaking of Haynesworth. There is a guy that might be a unreal beast this coming year. He has told people he is already working out and is going to come in weighting less and hopefully that will help. He just might live upto his potential this year. Boy that would help the DB's thats for sure.

i hope he'll be a Titan for life. I think hes goin to be a monster. He still has the best upside of any D tackle in the league. If he gets as strong as Randy Starks, Man i wouldnt know what to think. Randy is goin to be good too. Randy holds the record for the squat at Maryland. I think its 765lbs. And hes just 21..
Last year in the mock drafts he was goin to the bengals in the first round.
