PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced plans for a Hall of Honor, it was announced today by the team. The Hall of Honor will induct former players, coaches, and front office personnel who were integral in creating and sustaining the franchise’s success dating back to when the team was founded in 1933.

“The Hall of Honor will serve as a tribute to the many individuals who have contributed greatly throughout the history of our franchise,” Steelers President Art Rooney II said. “This is probably long overdue, and we are excited to begin the process of recognizing these individuals and their accomplishments, both on and off the field, during an annual series of ceremonies.”

There's probably a reason the team didn't have one of these up until now. It likely wasn't an oversight. It's because it's tacky nonsense. Like hanging banners celebrating playoff berths or something. There's a place for past Steelers greats to be acknowledged - it's called the HOF. The Hall is littered with them.

Meh, it doesn't really bother me. It's existence doesn't take away from the Steelers HOF dominance. I was also fine with not having one. I know, quite the stance I'm taking. Confused

What in the world is the problem with recognizing Steelers who were important to the franchise -- regardless of if they made the hall or not?

This is for the fans. Its a talking point between fathers and sons. Its meant to keep the legacy's of guys like Greg Lloyd, LC Greenwood, Donnie Shell, Etc from fading as the years pass.

It is not going to be a "Ring" of honor. Its going to be inside the stadium where they already have something that represents the Steelers great history -- The Great Hall.

Why NOT honor the players who have helped make this franchise what it is?

Those two that I bolded above are the exact type of guys that this is being done for. The guys that probably should already be in the HoF, but likely won't get in because there's this idea that there are too many 70's Steelers already in the HoF.
