Bullard has gained 14 lbs this off-season (good weight) and is up to 296.

There's this expectation floating around that Eddie Jackson has the FS job locked up. I'd pump the brakes a little there. Amos has been underwhelming, but he also has 31 career starts. Jackson has zero. Also, this is a John Fox team. Rookies won't start unless they're clearly the best option.

Don't disagree, but Amos is SO underwhelming and isn't a playmaker at all. Jackson brought a lot of that element at Bama.

I think Amos is going to have the inside track with the hope that a veteran like Demps can help him become more of a playmaker.

My money says by mid-season Jackson will be our starting FS.

I like Jackson quite a bit. I also like Deiondre' Hall and think we may all be a lot higher on him had he not missed basically the entirety of the second half of last year. Much of the draft stuff on him had S as maybe his best position and when he was given reps last year (mostly preseason) he did flash a bit.

I think the best thing about Hall is that you can bring him in coverage and put him right over a TE due to his size/length. He'll stick his nose in there in run support as well... as for his instincts, etc? No idea.

Amos was one of the worst defenders on our team last season... by far. If Jackson didn't break his leg he would've gone top 75. I bet Demps/Jackson/Hall are all ahead of Amos during last cuts.

I think if anyone is going to turn out to be a steal from day one it will be Jackson...that said I don't think we can think he is locked into that spot before live drills have even started.

Pre-camp assumptions defensive starters:

DE: Hicks
NT: Goldman
DE: Howard if healthy and unless Bullard improved a lot since last year. We'll see in camp. Bullard is most explosive guy, but inconsistent. Unrein is coaches favorite for some reason and the incumbent, but he is just a guy at best. He is a try hard guy without the physical talent of the other guys.

OLB: McPhee
ILB: Kwaitkowski (Trevathan when/if healthy.)
ILB: Freeman
OLB: Floyd

CB: Amukamara
CB: Cooper
NCB: Callahan

FS: Amos (After DE - position most up for grabs. Hall, Jackson, or Houston-Carson could easily win this job.
SS; Demps

I think positions most up for grabs are DE opposite Hicks, though will be rotation, NCB and FS.

I think OLB is deepest though all of the guys have been injury prone. Will be interesting to see who gets most time if they all stay healthy.

Hall is very intriguing at FS. I'd like to see him win the job, though it is a position change and not sure if he will get fair development time to shine. I think Jackson is an unknown at this point having not played football in a year. I think Amos is just a guy at best.

Can Fuller become a player in his contract year and live up to draft status? Odds are not with him as he is in Fangio dog house.

A healthy Bears defense is talented on paper. Especially if Trevathan and Goldman are playing and 100%. Bears have never been 100% healthy though and there are a lot of new pieces to fit together.

A complete offseason remake of secondary should be interesting. I think due to contracts it will be remade again next year at least at CB. Bears better start finding some guys in draft who can play CB.

Pre Camp presumptive Offensive Starters:

LWR: Meredith
RWR: White
SWR: Wheaton
LT: Leno
LG: Sitton
C: White
RG: Long
RT: Massie
QB: Glennon
RB: Howard
TE: Miller

I think if Long is healthy line is pretty much set. I don't believe Long is close to 100% at this point after what he went through in offseason and injuries he suffered last year. So could be interesting shuffling there. Maybe Grasu gets another shot at center if Long can't go.

On other hand if Long is actually healthy, Bears have one of best interior lines in NFL.

T depth is woeful. Bears need to find another T in draft ASAP. Hope Massie gets a better start than he did early last year when he was a turn style.

I think Miller could get pushed out of job because of his lack of ability to stay healthy. Or he could just get hurt again. Ditto for White.

Rookie and Sims will see a lot of the field regardless of who starts.

WR and RB battles are most intriguing. Langford went from starter to bubble player in a year.

I don't believe there is a legit QB battle. Glennon has the job for first half of 2017 unless team stinks, he absolutely stinks in pre season or he gets hurt.

Pre camp predicted Bears 53:

QBs:

1. Glennon
2. Trubisky
3. Sanchez

RBs:

4. Howard
5. Cunningham
6. Cohen
7. Langford

WRs:

8. Meredith
9. White
10. Wheaton
11. Wright
12. Randle
13. Bellamy

TEs:

14. Miller
15. Sims
16. Shaheen

OL:

17. Leno
18. Massie
19. Long
20. Sitton

21. White
22. Grassu
23. Sowell
24. Poehls
25. Morgan

FB:

26. Stevenson

DE:

27. Hicks
28. Unrein
29. Bullard
30. Howard

NT:

31. Goldman
32. Jenkins

OLB:

33. McPhee
34. Floyd

35. Young
36. Houston
37. Acho

ILB:

38. Freeman
39. Kwiatkoski

40. Trevathan
41. Jones

CBs:

42. Amukamara
43. Cooper

44. Callahan
45. LeBlanc
46. McManis

Safeties:

47. Demps
48. Amos
49. Jackson
50. Hall

51. LS Scales
52. Punter O Donnell
53. Kicker Barth

Bears usually keep just 3 RBs. I said 4, because Cohen is a specialist back. We'll see.

Bears usually keep just 2 QBs. I said 3 because it looks like they want 3 with the rookie as a roster lock.

Leaves depth shallow else where.

Also Trevathan may be on PUP list.

Bolds are roster locks. No way they are getting cut. Probably a much higher percentage is a lock, but those are dead bolts.

That is my belief.

Amos has the lead, Bush will start as the main competition for him

After Amos blows, Jackson will have a chance to take over FS and move Demps to be the one who comes up more often.

Let's face it, Demps is 32 and nearing the end of his rope. Not to say he can't play very well, but he isn't a long term piece. He is here to make a splash now and allow time (and hopefully aid them) to get at least two of the very young pieces to develop. I'd love to see Jackson and Hall both show a lot of promise, or Bush or Houston-Carson.

Best case scenario, Jackson shows he is a much improved tackler and two of the young guys show to be competent reserves, one showing promise as a starter in a year or two.

McPhee gets put on PUP again.

Moving on.

If the Bears get anything from McPhee it is a bonus. I am counting on him for nothing at this point.

Not sense in cutting him.
