Welcome to the Vancouver Skyline Expansion!

Warning, I suck at NBA so I will be very bad. But I will be bored all night since I got called off work and tomorrow I have off so I figure if I get invested enough in this I will keep it going. Also I usually cheat and always trade up for the prospect I want and it gets boring fast, so having you people judge me will keep me from doing that.

I should mention that I love players who are Offense+ and average defense. My starting 4 of the future will have range and likely undersized. Center is my least fav position, and is usually a + rebounder and defender. Offense for the center isn't high on my priority list unless a stud who has mid range comes up who is actually attainable.

Arrow I will be playing game 4 of every playoff series on 6 minute quarters. All Star difficulty until I get better.

Arrow All draft classes will be auto generated.

Arrow I won't trade up in the draft ever. I will try to avoid doing manual trades - I will never do unfair trades.

Arrow (as of 2018/19) I will no longer be selecting inside the top 5 of the draft. If I get a pick there I will have to trade down.

I copied this layout from MKnight

This is a myLeague, not myGM. The latter is just too much to deal with Laughing

Here is the custom stadium and jerseys I made... please like them

Year 1 Season

Year 1 Opening Day Roster

PG - Tyler Ulis (76 OVR) - 26 min
SG - Jamal Murray (76 OVR) - 27 min
SF - Joe Johnson (76 OVR) - 26 min
PF - Amir Johnson (77 OVR) - 27 min
C - Skal Labissiere (76 OVR) - 30 min

6th man, C - Javale McGee (76 OVR) - 26 min
7, PG - Tyus Jones (73 OVR) - 24 min
8, PF - Montrezl Harrell (75 OVR) - 22 min
9, SG - Jrue Holiday (74 OVR) - 20 min
10, SF - Vince Carter (74 OVR) - 12 min
11, SF - Demarre Carroll (75 OVR) - 0 min
12, C - Festus Ezeli (76 OVR) - 0 min
13, PG - Jerryd Bayless (75 OVR) - 0 min

The expansion draft actually went a lot better than I expected. I did not think I'd be able to get a player the caliber of Jamal Murray.... not really sure why he wasn't protected, but I won't complain. I took a handful of young talent that I will try to build around and flip a couple for picks.

Year 1 Strategy

This team is gonna be really bad. I don't necessarily want to lose, but there is no way I am giving up assets to get a vet on a team that isn't going to compete this year. I grabbed a few young centers and I will be moving on from one of them this year, whichever one gives the best return - maybe even 2 of them. I also have a feeling one of the point guards will be gone some time this year. Vince Carter will be on the team until he retires in whatever capacity.

Staff

I am not going to get too in detail about the staff - I will list new hires who are prior players. Other than that, I will be hiring the best staff that I can Laughing

I fired and hired the entire staff before the season started. Kevin McHale will be the head coach for the first year of the Vancouver Skyline - signed on a 4 year deal.

2017 Top 10 Prospects

1 SF / Scot Christie / VCU / 79 OVR / B+ Potential
2 SG / Gilbert Vaughn / Michigan State / 75 OVR / B- Potential
3 PG / Bryant Walton / VT / 75 OVR / A Potential
4 SG / Clint Petersen / Kentucky / 71 OVR / B Potential
5 SG / James Spencer / Harvard / 72 OVR / B+ Potential
6 C / Lester Justice / Michigan State / 74 OVR / B Potential
7 PG / Okan Penbe / Turkey / 74 OVR / B- Potential
8 SG / Samuel Strawberry / Miami FL / 66 OVR / A+ Potential
9 SG / Johnny Sparks / Oregon / 69 OVR / B Potential
10 SF / Austin Bridgeman / Kentucky / 71 OVR / B Potential

This draft class sucks. The top prospect is a great defender without great potential or size. Vaughn is a good shooter, but thats it. I really just want Samuel Strawberry for the name alone, but he is a "scrappy" player with great potential, but he won't ever be more than a role player. Bryant Walton is probably the best player, but he has pretty poor playmaking and speed for a point guard. I will likely be trading down in this draft and looking for some solid depth players, or trading out my highest pick entirely.

Code:
Trades

Spurs receive:
Joe Johnson

Skyline receive:
Danny Green SG 75
2018 2nd Round Pick

Joe Johnson isn't in any plans, and the Spurs offered this. 2nd round picks are essentially useless, but I'll take it in year 1. Plus it lets VC start for the rest of the year which is cool. Minutes were adjusted slightly, but not significant enough to post.

2016 All-Star break

I sit at 29-28 at the break. I was doing pretty terribly until I went on a 10 game win streak leading up to the break. I would be upset if there was a top flight prospect this year, but since there isn't, winning isn't the end of the world. It would be cool to make the playoffs in the first year of the franchise, so I won't tank.

There weren't any other trades worth taking, so the roster stands for the rest of the season.

Well at least we won a few awards Laughing If you're wondering why there is a lack of Warriors in the awards.... both Durant and Curry suffered season ending injuries. They aren't even in the playoffs....

The Miwaukee Bucks swept the Nuggets in the finals. This is so strange... The Finals MVP was Giannis Antetokounmpo with a 20-10-8 stat line. I am really hoping he suffers a career ending injury so I don't have to type his name again.

2017 Offseason

Notable Retirements
Vince Carter (well that was short lived) - HOF Inductee
Paul Pierce- HOF inductee
Pau Gasol
Richard Jefferson
Manu Ginobli

I never mentioned what happened to the divisions with the expansion. It is confusing me so here's a picture.

Draft Lottery

I didn't do well enough to have a great shot at a good pick, and I am never lucky with these things, but here they are

Top 5 Odds

1 Lakers 24.9% if not T3, goes to PHI
2 Heat 17.7%
3 Celtics via BKN 17.6%
4 Kings 11.8% if not T10 goes to CHI
5 Hornets 7.5%

8 Skyline 2.2%

Lottery Results

The Lakers kept the top pick, Celtics nabbed 2, Kings jumped to 3 and the Heat fell down to 4. Everything else pretty much stayed the same. My pick dropped down one to 9, boo.

My team sucks. This draft kinda sucks. I am going to look to see which one of my young players can get me a pick or two in future drafts.

Code:
Trade

Suns receive
Skal Labissiere (79 OVR)
17 2nd rd pick

Skyline receive
19 1st rd pick T3 protected

Remember when I said I don't care about centers? Well, not sure why the Suns want him so badly, but I'll take it. Biyombo's contract isn't that bad to carry for 2 years, and Skal is only 21 and improved a decent amount this year. That pick next year will probably be top 10, and I'm sure my pick will be in the lottery as well considering I'm losing my best player.

2017 NBA Draft

Entering the draft I'm hoping I can nab someone who can grow in a couple years when I am hopefully competitive. A reminder again of the top prospects:

Quote:
1 SF / Scot Christie / VCU / 79 OVR / B+ Potential
2 SG / Gilbert Vaughn / Michigan State / 75 OVR / B- Potential
3 PG / Bryant Walton / VT / 75 OVR / A Potential
4 SG / Clint Petersen / Kentucky / 71 OVR / B Potential
5 SG / James Spencer / Harvard / 72 OVR / B+ Potential
6 C / Lester Justice / Michigan State / 74 OVR / B Potential
7 PG / Okan Penbe / Turkey / 74 OVR / B- Potential
8 SG / Samuel Strawberry / Miami FL / 66 OVR / A+ Potential
9 SG / Johnny Sparks / Oregon / 69 OVR / B Potential
10 SF / Austin Bridgeman / Kentucky / 71 OVR / B Potential

Bryant Walton went #1 to the Lakers. 23 year old rookie at 75, yuck. Vaughn went 2. The Pistons traded Andre Drummond for the 3rd pick to take Strawbery.... darn. I was hoping he somehow made it to me being the only A+ in this draft. Miami traded Hassan Whiteside to move up to 7 to take Lester Justice... not sure I get that one either. That gave them 2 picks in the top 7.

We arrive at pick 9, and the trade offers aren't very good. Here are the top prospects left:

4 SG / Clint Petersen / Kentucky / 71 OVR / B Potential
Clint is a perimeter defender who has next to no offensive upside. nope

11 PG / Wallace Dean / Pitt / 71 OVR / B- Potential
This guy is an athletic playmaker. He has great speed, mediocre playmaking abilities, but the only position on my team where I have any strength is at the point, so

12 SG Louis Banks / Minnesota / 73 OVR / B- Potential
Banks has the best shot of anyone left with A from 3 and B mid. He's the highest projected OVR left. The dowside is the B- potential and his speed is 73. But there aren't any bigs with a shot out there, and the rest of the guards either can't shoot or can't run.

With the 9th pick in the 2017 NBA draft, the Vancouver Skyline select...

SG Louis Banks from Minnesota. It's a pretty lackluster first pick for this franchise, but I should have 2 good picks next year and hopefully that class is a little better.

That was the only pick I had, so I'm simming the rest of the draft.

Team Options

C Festus Ezeli - $7.73MM team option - picked up. I don't have much else going for me

PG Tyus Jones - $1.4MM team - Backup point with upside - obviously picking up his option.

Code:
Trade

Hawks receive
SF Demarre Carroll 76 OVR
2018 2nd rd pick

Skyline receive
2020 1st rd pick T5 protected

In an effort to unload this awful salary ($15MM AAV) I get a 1st rounder. Cool.

Code:
Trade

Heat recieve
SG Danny Green 75 OVR

Skyline receive
2020 1st rd pick T10 protected

Danny Green was owed $10MM this year. I could sign a min vet with that skill level. Plus, the Heat traded Whiteside this year so I expect this will be a decent 2021 pick.

Free Agency

I don't have any of my own free agents to sign this year, and I go into free agency with $57MM of cap room. I probably won't get any top guys, but I will put offers in and try to land 1 cornerstone.

Signed FAs

SG Dion Waiters 80 OVR - 2 yrs/$40.9MM
This was actually the last guy I signed, but I still had tons of cap so why not. I love Dion's attitude so I figure he can be my best player this year... what a sad thought Laughing

SF Andre Iguodala 76 OVR - 2 yrs/$23.49MM
I put offers in on Durant, Curry, Hayward and Otto Porter. They all stayed. So I have lots of money and I don't like the other top free agents, so I don't mind giving Iggy this much for only 2 years.

PF Amir Johnson 78 OVR - 2 yrs/$16.86 MM
Defender at the 4. JAG

PG Shaun Livingston 74 OVR - 1 yr vet min

C Nene 77 OVR - 1 year vet min

SF Matt Barnes 73 OVR - 1 years vet min

SF Tony SNell 74 OVR - 2 years vet min
As a Raptors fan, I don't like Snell. But he is a good shooter and will probably get some minutes

Kevin Durant signed with the Los Angeles Clippers

2017/18 Season

Opening Day Roster

PG - Tyler Ulis (77 OVR) - 30 min
SG - Dion Waiters (79 OVR) - 30 min
SF - Andre Iguodala (77 OVR) - 24 min
PF - Amir Johnson (77 OVR) - 24 min
C - Festus Ezeli (76 OVR) - 29 min

6th man, SG - Jamal Murray (76 OVR) - 26 min
7, PG - Tyus Jones (75 OVR) - 24 min
8, PF - Montrezl Harrell (76 OVR) - 21 min
9, SG - Louis Banks (73 OVR) - 20 min
10, SF - Tony Snell (74 OVR) - 12 min
11, PG - Jerryd Bayless (75 OVR) - 0 min
12, C - Nene (75 OVR) - 0 min
13, C - Bismack Biyombo (74 OVR) - 0 min
14, PG - Shaun Livingston (73 OVR) - 0 min
15, SF - Matt Barnes (69 OVR) - 0 min

I am pretty heavy on SG minutes this year. I really wanted Jamal Murray coming off the bench first, which is where he should be at this stage. Banks should hopefully do well enough with 20 minutes to progress a little bit. This is a roster build to be in the bottom 5 of the league - that's the goal, anyway. There should be an opportunity to grab a good free agent this coming off-season, and hopefully secure a couple promising kids in the draft.

The only untouchable on the roster is Jamal Murray, so we'll see what offers the CPU sends me this year

With Banks and Murray needing minutes I'm suprised you signed Waiters.

Also how do you not care about Centers? They are usually my most impactful position.
