http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/19841501/dak-prescott-accused-using-machine-sign-autograph

Quote:
Dak Prescott is being accused of using a machine to sign his autograph for a memorabilia company instead of signing by hand.

Beckett Grading Services, which evaluates and values trading cards, has refused to verify the Dallas Cowboys quarterback's signature in a recent card set.

Steve Grad, principal authenticator at Beckett, said his company looked at five autographed cards from collectors who received Prescott autograph redemptions from Panini's 2016 Prizm set.

"They had a very machine-like feel," Grad said. "You could see the starts and stops."

....

"I immediately knew they were autopen," Grad said. "I've never heard of a modern athlete doing this."

After turning in a stellar rookie seasons where he took command of one of the NFL's most popular franchise, it appears that quarterback Dak Prescott is attempting to compensate for his low salary (Under $1 million USD this season) by other methods. In this article it states that some of his recent 'autographed' cards were not signed by him but rather by a machine called the 'autopen'.

With the recent news surrounding Eli Manning promoting fake memorabilia and Takkarist McKinley having cards not autographed by him (mentioned in the article), it seems like NFL athletes are turning to dishonest methods to earn an extra buck.

How will this impact Dak's performance this coming season? Could his low base salary result in him doing all he can to maximize his revenue in other fashions and potentially distract him from his on-field performance? Could Autographgate uncover more athletes who aren't truthful with their autographs? Or is this potentially a case where his agents are keeping their client in the dark and trying to flip an extra buck?

Discuss.

Shocking if true. Terrible example for the children.

Ehhh....Don't care. Like I get it's a bad thing to fake your autograph and all that but there are worse things he could be doing. Hopefully this teaches him a lesson and he actually signs his stuff from now on.

That's why I don't really care about owning any autographed items. First off they cost a lot of money and secondly I'd be pissed if I thought I was getting the real deal and found out it was done by a machine. Autographs aren't cheap unless its from a scrub player.

I don't really understand the fascination with autographs. Assuming I already know how to spell the person's name I don't see any personal value with them.

Meh, again I don't agree with him doing this but overall it's not the worst thing he could be doing.
