Yeah, I think it is. It's on a bun which is a bread, also the hot dog is in between the bun so yeah it's a sandwich.

As far as the chart goes i'm definitely more of a structural purist as I would call all 3 on the top row a sandwich. That said I have no good counter-argument against a meatball sub or a hoagie being called a sandwich.

Plus it gets weird because just there's really no distinction between a hotdog (just the "meat" part) and a hotdog (the whole thing with bun/condiments). Like with a hamburger its meat part is a hamburger patty.

Also this.

Can't we just call it its own thing and just move on? Why does it have to be grouped with other similar but not the same items.

Yes, I think so. Much like all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares. If you were to take a hot dog bun and put cold cuts in it, you would not deny that it was a sandwich. If you were to take a hot dog, or other sausage, and put it between two pieces of normal sliced bread, you would not deny that it was a sandwich. So it follows that putting a hot dog in a hot dog bun is a sandwich.

Pretty much nailed it in the first post:

Are you using a bun? Absolutely a sandwich

You cutting it w/ a knife and fork w/ no bun? Definitely not a sandwich

/debate

Who eats a hotdog like that? Brats or other types of sausage, fine but if you eat a hotdog like that, I'm never inviting you to another BBQ.
