Didn't see the 49ers at all last season, has Joe Staley fallen off a cliff or just the victim of poor supporting cast?

Last year, he had his worst season since probably his first or second year. I don't think it's a skill issue - there's some regression there, sure, but not that much. I think a lot of it was supporting cast (awful offensive line), and the new inside zone blocking scheme that Chip employed, which was vastly different than anything we had ever done since he was drafted (every other coach we have had during his tenure, Singletary, Harbaugh, Tomsula ran a power man scheme). I mean, we were doing an inside zone scheme with one guard and center better suited for power scheme, and the only guard well suited for ZBS being Zane Beadles. So we ran an inside zone scheme when the worst part of our line is the interior. Then injuries required shuffling of the line (Beadles at Center, lulz) and it just got worse.

He's still a good left tackle. Probably not top 3 or 5 level any more, but he'd be fringe top 8-10 I think.

Yea I dont watch enough o line play across the league to make any list but Joe Staley has no reason being off a top 10 list of LT's. He has been probably a top 3 LT in the game since he came in as a rookie. He had an okay year not a bad year but that can be from a number of factors.

Lewan was arguably the best LT in the game last year, and is only getting better. He is top 5 for sure...

Penalties were an issue, but he was dominant in the run game and allowed 1 sack all season...but whatever you say...

Lewan should be no lower than top 5. For most of the season last year, he was graded as the top LT.

Whose place should Lewan take in the top 5?
