Per Adam Schefter. Deal is "close" to done and should be announced by the end of the week.

This deal could result in Carr becoming the highest paid QB in the NFL in terms of annual money. Luck is currently the highest paid, making $24.594m yearly.

Well worth it. Finished 3rd in the MVP voting behind Ryan and Brady, had two amazing seasons in a row. 60 TDs 18 INTs (only 6 last year) and almost 8,000 yards in two seasons. Not to mention Carr is probably the best 4th Quarter player in the league right now. He had 7 game winning touchdown drives. The most in NFL History. I also believe he only threw 1 INT in the 4th.

Congrats to Carr. We haven't had a franchise QB since the late great Kenny Stabler in the 70's.

2017 cap is $167m. Roughly 15%.

Here's a PFT blog post that talks about the possibility of star players requesting contracts be based on a percent of the salary cap:

15%.

Mack will probably command around 22M a year I think. Gonna be more than people expect. So two of our players would command 28% of our cap. But without these two combined, we probably win 3 games instead of 12 last year. Which is crazyyyy to say about two players. Carr is the focal point of our offense and Mack had so many strip fumble sacks to close the game out last year I lost count.

Typical agent push back, trying to squeeze a few more shekels out of them. Doubt it means anything.

RIP Raiders' SB chances.

Good for Carr, and good for Oak/LV locking up their young studs, it'll put butts in the seats. But as far as being competitive....gonna be tough. Once you commit that much money to 1, or especially two guys, your roster suffers. Can they find a way to afford Cooper when he commands 14m/yr in 2 yrs. What about Penn and Jackson next year? Their window is this year or next.

Derek Carr will get $25 million a year and can now afford a one-bedroom apartment in the Bay Area.

This is probably Penns last year in Oakland, getting older. He tested the market two years ago after two stellar seasons with us and couldn't fetch anything.

The Raiders are a very young team with tons of players on their initial rookie contract. As long as they win a Super Bowl in the next four years, the contracts will have no negative effect until then.

Not sure about that.

Luck is still only 27 years old.

If I'm in the minority, I think it's close.

This is exactly the right way to look at it. 15% of the cap for the value a very good QB like Carr adds is a major steal.
