Fairley, who signed a four-year, $28 million deal with the Saints in March, visited a cardiologist last month and since then has been away from OTAs and out of communication with many of his teammates, sources say, adding that players who usually speak to Fairley on a regular basis have been unable to reach him.

I read somewhere that it may be career ending.

Oh man that's scary, Hope it's something minor that he can recover from.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000813044/article/nick-fairleys-nfl-future-in-question-due-to-medical-issue

then again this could be b.s because rappaport isn't always accurate and "When reached by NFL.com last week, Fairley's agent, Brian Overstreet, denied his client had visited a doctor recently.

"He's good, just doing his own thing," Overstreet said, adding that he speaks to Fairley every day. Overstreet declined to say when Fairley would be back to work."

Whatever it is, hope it works out.

I recall hearing that he had some issues prior to being drafted. Hope he and his career are fine.

Might explain the lukewarm markets he always received in FA. I mean he has had his motor problems on the field but I always felt he was getting less attention then he deserved.

Jesus, hope he's okay.

Also, the football gods hate us.

No idea but it's apparently not new. The new doc he met wanted to be thorough apparently.

If it's not a progressive condition then there's a fair amount of hope if he could play years with whatever it is.

It will be interesting to find out what it is, if it is abnormal growth of the left ventricle then I wouldn't sign him or play him as further exercise would put him at risk for sudden cardiac death.

Can't blame a guy for wanting to put his health first. If there is a risk, I hope he does the smart thing and retires.

He's getting a 2nd opinion, but the first doctor recommended retirement effective immediately.

I think he's getting a 3rd opinion. The subtext here is the second doctor disagreed with the first one.
