we traded Demario Davis for Calvin Pryor...just saw it on ESPN and was surprised there was no thread already.

It's because he's been deemed a bust thus far despite his big name coming out. We've been discussing it in the other thread fwiw. Realistically, it looks like two players that were on the fringe of being cut but may have made it through the year on their rosters without much chance of either being resigned. Now they are both in systems that will use them--win-win situation for NYJ & CLE.

Class response from Davis:
Quote:
I want to thank Jimmy and Dee Haslem, Sashi Brown, Andrew Berry, and Hue Jackson for giving me the opportunity to spend an amazing year with the Cleveland Browns. I have nothing but good things to say about this 1st class organization, that's on its way to shocking the world. To my brothers in the lockerroom; the stage is set, go make it happen. In this past year, I've grown as a person and a player in ways that wouldn't have happened in any other circumstance. For that I'm thankful to the one who's in control, the man upstairs. Be blessed Cleveland!

I think we carry 5 safeties this year at the expense of a linebacker or cb.

We only need 4-5 LBs. I wonder if we make Derrek Kindred Pryors backup. I really like the scheme we will be running. The only fatal flaw is if you face a bruising runningback. Our division doesn't have any of those. I don't consider Bell to be a bruiser.

In alphabetical, I'm going Nacua, Peppers, Powell, Pryor, Reynolds

I see keeping five CB as well, one losing a spot later for Howard Wilson if he isn't IR'd.

I see us going one fewer LB as well, since we have a couple safeties we could count as LB in our scheme.

Please no Reynolds.

I think kindred makes it over him.

Also I'm not sold on Pryor making the roster.

What about Campbell and Kindred?

I'm more into Kindred but just was guessing between the two. Reynolds is the *shrug* choice--could easily be Campbell or Kindred over him.

I think Pryor makes the roster. He's a bust for his draft position but is young and aggressive and cheap. He's coming to a team that traded for him, and he has a clean slate. We all of a sudden have a lot of depth players though not necessarily any clear high level starters (we'll see about Peppers--am optimistic, though). I could see Kindred & Reynolds both be cut or either one making the team.

Just my opinion, but what it will boil down to with Reynolds, Kindred, and Campbell is special teams. On D, I think they are all 3 just a guy that are a liability when on the field.

If anyone can figure out a way to get the most out of Pryor, it's got to be Gregg Williams. This is a guy that loves to hit, and Williams' defense will allow him to do that early and often.

If he busts, no big deal because the trade actually gained us cap space by moving a player in Davis that was going to see very limited reps. I don't know if he'll ever live up to pre-draft expectations, but my guess (and hope) is that he turns into a useful player here.

for ss we have Peppers, Pryor, Kindred and Campbell, I think 3 make it.

Peppers makes it, Pryor makes it, Kindred is a sat pick and more athletic than Campbell, campbell gets cut.

at FS we have Reynolds, Kai and Powell.

I have Kai and Reynolds making it but nothing to base it on.

The sooner we can replace literally everybody who played safety for us last season, the better. Kindred may make it, but early results aren't encouraging. Reynolds is hard to avoid because he's the guy the other team targets, and rightly so. Campbell plays like his feet weigh 20 pounds each.

We will continue to add to the pile of DBs until the old regime's leftovers are put in the compost heap.

Kindred is an in the box safety with good special teams value, Campbell sucks.

Reynolds has a couple of redeeming qualities and I think could stick.

But yes our two safetys last year were the worst in the league, whoever it was out there.
