I do not hate the signing, but I almost hope he does not make the team.
My hope is that one of the younger WRs with a bit of a future can step up and make needing a steady declining vet not as serious.
But I understand wanting a guy with a resume. _________________ John Fox

Adding options.
Let them sort themselves out in camp.
The WR core is super light on experience and production and he has done both.
They could also be preparing for the fact that Kevin White is going to get injured at some point. _________________ John Fox

Or is he already injured?
I'm a Braverman guy, I want that kid getting as many reps as possible. _________________

He should be a fan favorite. Football fans love washed-up stars. _________________

He just might be. Fox's statement on his lack of participation was...cryptic, at best.
I think this Cruz signing probably means that they're having to face the reality that they may have to cut White... |

Braverman can still earn a job, same with Gentry.
But the Bears may end up just needing a veteran who is not going to get bullied or screw up every other play.
Might as well add him and then cut him if the young guys step up. _________________ John Fox

I have a feeling those two are ticketed for the practice squad.
I think Wheaton and Wright are battling for future contracts, my money says it will be Wright in 2018 and beyond.
I think Meredith becomes our #1 and Kevin White becomes a bubble/tunnel screen and one-trick-pony deep shot (think Darrius Heyward-Bey). _________________

Haha I was going to post a few weeks ago a thread asking if people would be interested in signing him but figured I'd be met with resistance because our team is full of #2's and Cruz is older |

I'd keep gentry and braverman over bellamy, even if they are unproven |

I hope Cruz teaches these young guys a lot in camp...and is then cut...
We are a team who should be building for 2018...Cruz doesn't help with that. _________________ Adopt-a-Bear...Adrian Amos |

I think if there's anywhere they mishandled a position it's at WR. It's not really there but it kind of resembles Jerry Angelo's method of filling the WR position. Very skeptical of who's going to actually produce. _________________

A major trait of a great QB is the ability to work through progression. Guys like Brees, Brady, and Rodgers compensate for having a random, average group of WRs because they'll work through their progression and take what they're given. We've seen a lot of their receivers go to teams with lesser QBs and immediately become irrelevant.
Pace is banking on the ability of his QBs to work through their progression. We will have to see how that plays out.
I get the concern though. A good QB can make average receivers look good, and a good WR can make an average QB look good. Angelo's teams had worthless receivers and mediocre QBs.
If Trubisky is special and the receivers are average, I'll be very happy. _________________
