A few takeways from the interviews just posted from OTAs.

Conley competing in the slot mostly.

Reggie Nelson is the secondary leader.

Pagano is working with the secondary. More knowledge in the room.

12? That's some creative shiit right there. Wink

We tried 10 on the field last year and still were 12-4. We are trying to get over the hump man!

292 all purpose yard and 2 tds last yr vs us. I'd put a sniper on Mt Davis if it would help. Just gunning for a flesh wound.

That's my biggest question about the defense -- how much of the defensive struggles last season was due to talent issues, and how much of it was due to scheme/game-planning issues and KNJ's lack of defensive X-and-O knowledge? Is there a lack of defensive talent in Oakland, or were players not put in a position to succeed due to our DC's lack of experience? Both/And, perhaps?
I guess it remains to be seen. I wouldn't be surprised if John Pagano proves to be our most valuable defensive acquisition.

Well seeing as we fired the secondary coach, we had just put together a new unit with 3 new players, our first 2 players draft this year were DBs and we brought in a former D coordinator who is highly regarded to work with them that points to the issue.

Players not being on the same page and not putting players in a position to succeed. I think we have plenty of talent but the some players have major limitations causing the lack of cohesion and coaching to be a bigger problem.

it was a lot of miscommunication on the back end that led to big plays.

I know everyone clamors to sign vet players, but I kinda wish we gave Dumervil a look as a depth/backup edge guy.

It's always nice to have a vet in any room, and I think he still has a little left in the tank. Sad he's gonna waste away on the 49ers.

I see what you're saying but I think our room is nicely stocked with experienced voices with Bruce and Mack.

On the FA tip tho, I'd be more interested in Erik Walden if we were going to add an edge player. Tho I think they want to give Calhoun and Cowser the chance to really get more snaps. If we add it will be to the ILB spot after Carr and Gabe get signed IMO.

+1 I would of loved Dumervil just as a Designated pass rusher for some juice late in games

Reggie isn't gonna give him 3-5 mil a yr just for that. Not with the cap crunch approaching.
