What's wrong with Matthews? He somehow had a great game against the Ravens last year.

Often hurt. Also the Pederson staff isn't a big fan of his.

Been reports all off-season that the Eagles want to move on from him.

We can't cut Matthews until he can pass a physical or we owe him a settlement. Matthews is on the team in name only. He's been a dead man walking all off-season, and this signing had no affect on it imo.

He wasn't very good

He's good when he doesn't fumble, get hurt, or drop passes.

Anyone in the market for a lazy, soft running back that can't hold onto the ball?

I think he's good but his stats definitely make him look better than he was. 1,000 yards and 18 TDs is a crazy year for a RB but averaging less than 4 yards per carry on 300 is pretty bad. I think he'll be good in Philly cause he has Sproles as a quicker shifty back so he can act as the thumper. Plus they can stretch the field with their new WRs which gives him more space since he isn't very fast or elusive. Overall Blount is a good RB with good ball security and can really pound the ball but he's not in the top tier of RBs who can also hit a hole and be gone, he just isn't fast enough.

Yes, they assigned the May 9th tender to him.

Lol. He should just retire. How can it be fun to play knowing at some point during the season you'll tear or break something?

In the modern game he is useful. In that he holds onto the ball, and that he can pick up short yardage. You will need someone else to catch passes in other situations.

15 to 20 years ago, someone like Blount would have been signed to a massive multi-year deal. Now, as we all know, RBs are not highly valued.

Nice pickup for the Eagles. They could be a team to watch in the NFC East for next year.

regardless, all they'll get is a 6th or 7th round pick out of this, right?

why do they get one for Blount but not Floyd?

Because they didn't offer the same tender to Floyd. I think he counts to their formula but the $ involved means likely no pick. Apparently this tender guaranteeed a pick to NE if Phi gets any comp pick (likely their lowest a 2.8M contract even it's fully guaranteed wouldn't count for much under the comp formula).

What this really highlights is how opaque the comp pick system is. The fact no one can publicly say the exact formula for deciding comp picks (we know it's related to who teams gain & lose in UFA, but even then how it's decided is never clearly laid out), well, that's the NFL for you.

Blount will be factored into the compensation when all is calculated due to the tender. Floyd was signed after the deadline to to factor in
