here's hoping he's healthy!

Injuries, and whatnot, stink. Good luck to him.

Vikings press release: “As the Vikings begin OTA practices, Coach Zimmer will be taking time away from the team to dedicate to recovering from eye surgery and restoring his health. We all agree Mike’s health is the priority and we believe rest and recovery are in his best interest for the long term. We anticipate Mike back on the field in a few weeks.”

Zimmer’s eye issue made things that much worse as his torn retina turned into a detached retina. The Star Tribune reported that Zimmer has undergone four surgeries, including three unplanned, since the NFL Scouting Combine in March. Zimmer also said in March that doctors have informed him there is “a high likelihood” he will experience similar issues in his left eye at some point.

Zimmer told the team’s radio flagship on Monday that he had pushed back when his doctors recommended he take time off, but he relented and agreed to spend time at his ranch in Kentucky. Zimmer also expressed optimism about what doctors had told him about how his retina was healing.

i'm starting to think this is the beginning of the end of Zimmer's coaching career...

Crying or Very sad

odd, odd injuries. first Bridgewater, then Zimmer.

I do think it could possibly shorten how long he will coach. He turns 61 in a couple of weeks...at best, he could probably make it to age 70, but I suspect it he's got maybe 5-6 more years in him.

This is definitely getting to be a real concern. I always thought that Mike Shanahan had a glass eye. Is this true?

No...I believe that is what is known today as "fake news."

Best part of Zimmer call: Zim saying PR maven Bob Hagan told him over 400 celebrities have one eye. So Zim not worried at all.

Under Zimmer's timeline of 6/4 return, will miss 3 OTAs next week and, if cleared, will be back for OTAs week of 6/5 and minicamp 6/13-15

The Vikings announced that Zimmer, who is recuperating at his ranch in Kentucky, plans to return to Minnesota on June 4. He has an appointment with doctors on June 5 and hopes to receive clearance to resume working at that point.

If that happens, Zimmer, who General Manager Rick Spielman said is in regular communication with the rest of the staff, will be back in time for the final set of OTA practices and the team’s mandatory minicamp, which runs from June 13-15.

Yeah, I never heard any news reports about it. He just has that look about him. Then again, maybe I'm mistaking him for Sammy Davis Jr. Laughing

Zimmer: “I can’t see through the gas bubble, it’s like looking through a water balloon. I’ll be back shortly with one eye or two. It doesn’t matter. I’ll be back either way. I don’t want to go blind in this eye but if that’s what it is, that’s what it is. This will not keep me from coaching. I’ve asked the doctor if it’s a lost cause. He said, ‘No, it’s not like that. If it was, I’d tell you.’ Obviously, I’ve thought about it. But this is not going to keep me from coaching one way or another.”

Everson Griffen: “I’m a true believer that iron sharpens iron, like Coach Zimmer says. That’s what we’re doing out here each and every day. It’s not about being physical. It’s about making the guy next to you better – competing each and every down, learning how to compete, learning how to work hard. You’ve got to create good habits. Once you create good habits, they stick for the long run.”

Mike Zimmer received an ideal 61st birthday gift Monday.

The Vikings announced that he has been cleared to return to coaching after missing two weeks of organized team activity sessions to rest his right eye, which has required eight surgeries since last November.

Hope he doesn't have any more complications.

Glad to have him back now so we can get back on track!

Zimmer’s players greeted his return by singing “Happy Birthday” during team meetings. That was Zimmer’s only gift.

Brian Robison: “It was a good enough birthday present that we let him back in the building.”

The philosophy the Vikings run under with Zimmer is pretty clear-cut – the Vikings will win if the defense holds an opponent under 20 points. That has been the mantra from Day 1 and Zim isn’t the first to use that premise as the measure for success. If the offense, special teams and an opportunistic defense can combine to score 20 points, that should be enough to win, because the Vikings aren’t going to allow 20 points.

For the most part, that has been true. In 48 regular-season games during the Zimmer regime, the Vikings have allowed fewer than 20 points in 26 of those games. When that has happened, the Vikings are 21-5. In the 22 games in which an opponent has scored 20 points or more, the Vikings have a record of 5-17.
