I feel like every year there are QBs that are drafted in the 1st round with the expectation that they will sit for a year or 2 and learn. Is this really the case though? Do you guys think these 2 will sit all year barring injuries? _________________

Trubisky, maybe a year, possibly just half a year as if Glennon starts off slow the call for Trubisky and the coaches wanting to keep their jobs might force the change.
I think Mahomes sits for at least a year. Perfect position as Smith is an adequate QB that works in the Chiefs system and keep them as a playoff team/contender for the next year or two. I think Reid will take his time to make sure Mahomes is comfortable and as ready as can be expected before being thrown to the wolves. |

It's going to depend on how well they do in practice, but the Bears are more likely to get desperate and shove out Trubisky even if he isn't ready. Still, I think both teams actually do sit both QB's for significant time. Mahomes probably sits for 2 years. _________________

I find it unlikely that Mahomes gets in this year without an injury to Alex Smith, which may happen...he's gotten more and more banged up the past couple of years for the Chiefs.
As for Trubisky? I'd say after the Saints game. That's their bye week I believe. It's good timing (half the season in) and I just don't know that the team improved enough to give Glennon a real shot at doing anything impressive. I mean, even if he's just meh, if the team is 2-6 or 1-7 heading into the bye week, the fans will be restless, the coaching staff may just try anything. _________________

Trubisky - 14 games barring very very likely injuries.
Mahomes - 2 full seasons barring injuries. _________________

I think Trubisky will be QB3 this season up until about week 14 or so, then he might get some garbage time.
Plan, my guess, is to let him compete for the job in 2018. _________________

Trubinsky will sit for 0 to 12 weeks. The estimate will constantly drop until he is put in, just like with Wentz and Bortles and et. al.
Mahomes will sit possibly until release. |

I would bet a lot of money that Trubisky is the starter no later than week 12.
Mahomes will sit all year unless Smith gets hurt or implodes. _________________

Mahomes will sit the year, then Smiths contract becomes cuttable in 2018. Depending on how well Mahomes can adjust will determine if we keep Smith, and roll with Mahomes. _________________

The Chiefs are a good team, so they likely won't face sufficient adversity that forces the rookie into a starting role unless Smith gets hurt. This is the luxury of being a good team.
The Bears are not nearly as likely to be in the hunt towards the end of the season (they finished 4th in their division and arguably improved the least of any team in the NFC North in the offseason). Eventually there's going to be pressure to "see what the rookie can do" and Trubisky will go in no later than the week the Bears realistic playoff chances expire. |

I can't imagine he'd sit a full 2 years. I feel like maybe a whole year but then they cut him loose on the field _________________

Why not? Everyone keeps talking about how Mahomes needs to be completely rebuilt as a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers was. Aaron Rodgers had three full years to fix his mechanics. If you're willing to be patient enough to give Mahomes at least two when they have Alex Smith, why'd they draft him? _________________

I think having someone like Favre in front of him and given the fact the Packers didn't trade up for him are 2 reasons why i don't think they are complete parallels. I agree he needs to develop but when was the last time a 1st round rookie QB sat 2 whole years? Even people like Tebow who was expected to sit 2+ years didn't even last 1. _________________
