The Minnesota Vikings added two wide receivers and a tight end in the draft, but according to KSTP-TV’s Darren Wolfson (also host of “The Scoop” Podcast on 1500ESPN.com), they are pursuing another weapon on offense: Receiver Michael Floyd.

The former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver was cut last season after being charged with his third DUI since 2011. He was picked up by the New England Patriots, but rarely saw the field, catching just four passes as a Patriot. In February, the 27-year-old was sentenced to 24 days in jail and 96 days of house arrest. Now he’s looking for a gig. For the Minnesota Vikings, adding Floyd would mean a return to his hometown, where the team would put their hopes on his support system and wake-up call from his recent sentence.

On the field, he could be exactly what the offense needs. While Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen are caught their fair share of deep passes last season, neither is a pure deep threat like Floyd. According to Pro Football Focus metrics, his average depth of target last season was 15.8 yards, while Diggs’ was 8.7 and Thielen 11.2. Floyd has averaged as much high as 17.9 Yards Per Catch during his career in Arizona. While the majority of Sam Bradford’s passes in Pat Shurmur’s West Coast offense were underneath, when he did go deep, the Vikings’ quarterback had success. The only quarterbacks with a better rating than Bradford on throws qualified by official NFL play-by-play as “deep,” were Matt Ryan, Tom Brady, Dak Prescott, Andrew Luck, Ben Roethlisberger and Derek Carr.

will he start the season with a suspension? are multiple DUI's too high of an error to accept?

No. He's a football player, not a school bus driver.

if he has multiple DUIs and is facing a suspension, then I would just roll with what we have.

let the rookies, Fruechte and MoBo fight for the #5/#6 spots

No. He's a football player, not a school bus driver.

other than, could it happen again and the investment in him becomes a waste?

Sure it could become a waste. However, I'm sure any team he signs with will offer him a contract reflective of that possibility.

Money, get away.
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay.
Money, it's a gas.
Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash.
New car, caviar, four star daydream,
Think I'll buy me a football team.

I hope whatever happens to him, he figures his life out quickly and doesn't do something like this again.

I think our top 3 is fine, but Floyd would be a nice addition.

if he is suspended, how long will it be? 2-3 games? I'd take the gamble on him.

Jared Allen was arrested/charged with 3 DUI's. He turned out ok for us.

Based on the plain language of the substance-abuse policy, Floyd could be facing a suspension of more than two games.

“Absent aggravating circumstances, discipline for a first offense will be a suspension without pay for two (2) regular or postseason games,” the policy states. “If the Commissioner finds that there were aggravating circumstances, including but not limited to felonious conduct, extreme intoxication (BAC of .15% or more), property damage or serious injury or death to the Player or a third party, and/or if the Player has had prior drug or alcohol-related misconduct, increased discipline may be imposed.”

Floyd, who currently is under contract but was playing for the Cardinals when arrested, was arrested with a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.217 percent. That factor alone sets him up for an enhanced penalty. There’s another aggravating factor, given that Floyd had three prior instances of alcohol-related misconduct at Notre Dame. Twice he was cited for underage consumption. Once he was arrested for DUI, with a BAC of 0.19 percent.

It's not about the money. If you sign him, you cut someone else. if he then gets in trouble again, you don't have a replacement.

This is like the argument we had last year about what's his name, the WR that keeps getting suspended.....

It isn't the money, it's the opportunity cost.

Pink Floyd is terrible. I'm indifferent to brining Floyd in. If it works out great if not I won't lose any sleep over it.

gotta admit, the thread title was a prime one.

but the larger point i believe is this: is Floyd an alcoholic yet to hit bottom (and why would we want him under contract if so), or a guy like Jared Allen who partied too much and drove home on his own instead of calling a taxi?

because there's a BIG difference.
