I didn't feel That Schum put us in much of a better situation than all the punters we had in the preseason last year. Are we content with a guy that can't flip the field when we're sputtering on offense deep in our own territory? I feel that we need a bigger leg punting, wouldn't Mortell be a guy we should bring in again to see if he's been working on his craft?

Hey your desire to improve a vital aspect of team football is totally understandable. However, Schum won the job and has been training all offseason; Mortell, too.
I drive past Tim Mastay's old house in Green Bay. It has blue siding and white trim and Schum kicked him out. Jake won the job and punted for us in the playoffs. Do you have statistics to prove our punter was above par? I wouldn't worry. Absolutely bring in competition. But check out his Instagram here

Ideally, we score on every possession so we just need a guy to hold on PATs/FGs.

I thought Schum was really good in the final 5 or so games.

We signed the 2nd best punter in the draft. Vogel is in the house!

Punters have a hard time latching on early in their career .. sometimes takes them a couple years before they are ready to challenge for a job. Hopefully Vogel is a cut above and can win that job .. might have a long term punter we'd feel pretty good about.

Vogel needs to show he can be the primary holder in the kicking game. GB will place a pretty high value on that, maybe more than the punting ability.

Chemistry between holder and Crosby needs to be sound.

I mean... they did get rid of Masthay on cut-down day last year and then brought in Schum without any knowledge as to how he would be as the primary holder for Crosby.

So I agree, but as long as Vogel isn't downright terrible I don't think that will be the deciding factor on who wins the competition.

I am not sure if Schum had experience of being a holder or not. Also not sure if Vogel does or not. College has more players suited up, so there are more options for the holder position vs NFL with limited game day roster spots.
