I think its more than likely that both Thomas and Foster will wait until final roster cuts choose a permanent number. I'm sure Thomas would prefer his old college number, 93 which is currently being used by Chris Jones, a fringe roster player. Not sure what number Foster will take but maybe he waits until the dust settles. Other draftees I'm not so sure about...

Yea you're right. Don't know why I said 93. Must have been thinking Jonathan Allen. Anyways, I think Earl Mitchell took #90 if I'm not mistaken so I still think he probably waits and sees what's left after final cuts.

Wouldn't mind Foster sporting #52. I'd like to see both 53 and 52 lined up out on the field together making plays.

Agreed. I like Foster and all but no one should touch 52 or 21. Its a formality those numbers will be retired very soon. We haven't officially retired Bryant Young's 97 but no one's worn it since he retired. That's another one that should be off limit.

52 and 21 forsure then maybe there can be a discussion for 94 and 97.

There's no discussion needed about 97.]

I don't personally feel the need to retire any number. I just want the team to not issue those numbers to anyone, unless the previous owner of the number vouches for it. Imagine a scenario where we draft a RB out of Miami, and Gore has been supporting and involved in his college career in some capacity, and he is the real deal. With Gore's permission, I'd be happy to have a player wear that number again. It wouldn't make Gore's career any less special, and whenever I'd see this new #21, I'd happily remember Gore. If Pat Willis comes out and strongly encourages Foster to take his number, I'd be okay with it. If Foster asked for it without consulting with Patrick, and then the team gave it to him, I'd be very disappointed with everyone involved.

They can do that if it's retired. See: Brodie/Dilfer.

I'm kind of a fan of how colleges do it where a certain number is designated to a special or deserving player. I understand it would be a little different as NFL player careers at one location can be much longer but I get the sacredness of certain numbers.

Personally, I like that each NFL franchise is different. We're a team that retires the numbers of our greats, and I like that.

94 has already been re-issued to Dekoda Watson.

I liked how in Detroit Sanders got to wear #20 with a connection to Oklahoma with Billy Simms, and they could have retired it with Lem Barney years before. I dig the idea of a number being special, and it can still be broken out for a special talent or circumstances.
