So Jason La Canfora is hearing scouts and other personnel told to be in office in the morning. Hearing there will be a GM change from Doug Whaley to Brandon Beane the Carolina AGM. Would also explain us trading up in front of them and taking a player they wanted. Rumor so far but worth keeping an eye on so think it deserves its own thread.

UPDATE: Whaley officially fired via the Buffalo Bills

I guess the draft really was mostly McD.

Im sure Whaley and staff definetly did all the scouting/made the trades but with McDermott deciding who to pick.

Can't find it now, but last night I ran into an article that pointed out that during draft interviews, McDermott kept saying "I", not "we" when discussing who had made decisions on players. Looks telling.

I'm a little surprised this ended up being true. I'm not against it but I'm a little wary of the unknown and I think it seems weird we let a guy select a coach and complete the draft before firing him.

I think Whaley did a pretty decent job of acquiring talent so we'll see how the next guy does.

Whaley gets a lot of hate because he was bad at conveying his message to the media/public. With that being said he didnt deserve all the hate... was he a great gm... far from it but he had a knack for finding talent overlooked by other teams and made some great trades with Hughes, McCoy, and this Chiefs deal. He isnt the best but he was terrible either. Just wasnt the total package we need here in Buffalo to turn the team around.

And im sure Whaley knew for months he was out and thats why McDermott handled the pressers. Thats why we jumped Panthers twice and took two guys they wanted. McDermott was picking for Beane (even if they will never admit to it). They kept him on because they didnt want to start from scratch in the scouting process and let Whaley finish the job he started.

Doug Whaley, the Bills G.M. who had reportedly been on thin ice all offseason, was officially fired early Sunday morning.

Almost immediately after the Bills hired head coach Sean McDermott, there was talk coming out of Buffalo that McDermott and Whaley didn’t see eye to eye, and that Pegula sided with McDermott when the two disagreed. Pegula reportedly gave McDermott control of the draft, and now that the draft is over, Whaley is out.

Well McDermott is in control now. Belichick had the nickname the hoodie so i think since Sean is in charge he deserves a nickname... how about The Brain... (as in Pinky and the Brain... the little rat dude with the large head)

Overdorf needs to go he has cost the bills more crap then the GM he is responsible for contracts and the way they have been handled for so many years have been a disaster. He should have been canned the day that Marrone's loophole worked paying him money and not having to coach the bills.

What about Russ Brandon how come this guy is still around. Cant the Pegulas see he has ruined the bills and in the last few years the sabres as well he needs to go!!!!

Russ Brandon doesnt work for Bills... he is the President of PSE. Bills are owned by PSE but he doesnt directly work for Bills organization.

Seen this mentioned before. I've also seen quotes from Brandon stating that since he is in the same building, it's pretty ridiculous to think that he and Whaley didn't talk to each other and exchange ideas.

That said, I still think Overdorf is a bigger liability than Brandon for Bills fans.

I read the last straw was him passing on Mahomes to trade down. Welp.

Russ Brandon is President of Bills and Sabres, and was said to be running the search for Sabres GM job so I am not buying that he has no say in either organization, he is literally the main link of both failing organizations. Whether he was jumping on the sinking ship of the Sabres before or after the down fall we all know he has been riding the bills sinking ship for years now and he needs to go!
