Awesome. I love Ivie. He's a complete fighter. Been an underdog his whole life. Super sad story about his sister dying.

Biggest thing he need is to do work in the weight-room (easily Florida's biggest issue).

He's a complete developmental pick. But he is a fighter.

Just watched his tape against ECU and he constantly in the backfield. Has really good pursuit and knows how to get skinny. Like what I see here.

As I mentioned the sad part - he plays for his sister that passed away:

http://www.tampabay.com/sports/college/gators-joey-ivie-carries-spirit-of-his-late-sister/2243244

Quote:
So Joey stayed with Jordan in her hospital room on the last Sunday in April. He wrapped his massive arms around the 17-year-old former cheerleader. Then he held Jordan against his 6-foot-3, 295-pound body, until he felt his baby sister's heart stop.

He is the type of kid you want to root for. Has a tough road ahead of him.

Looks like a camp body/practice squadder. Someone to push Paea and Thornton, I guess. Would be a nice story if he amounted to something.

Yeah - absolutely. He starts off as a P.S. type of guy. But he's the type of guy that all coaches (and fans) are going to root for. And he is going to work his [inappropriate/removed] off to prove himself.

A 7th round roll of the dice on someone hungry? I am good with it.

Poor Rod... he's been ignored for so long. This weekend had to feel like Christmas for him.

There's one game of him at draftbreakdown against East Carolina. It's far from sucky.

Both Paea and Thornton have proven that they are JAGs...If he pushes them at all he should get the roster spot and send at least one of those "progress stoppers" packing.

Cheaper, younger, more upside...easy choice if he pushes them.

Eh. Paea had 6 sacks his last season under Marinelli. Thornton is a guy we signed because of the work he did battling Zack Martin when the Eagles' run D used to give us problems. They're not special but they're the best this team is likely to do at the 1-technique given how frequently they've shown they don't value it. It's not like they were gonna give Jonathan Hankins $10M/yr or spend a second rounder on a 320-lb nose guard from Bama. They don't do that.

At the same time, they're also the only options we really had at 1-tech entering the draft, and neither of them should be guaranteed a roster spot if they don't prove that they're amongst the 8 or 9 best DLs on the team. DT is a position where you have to maintain your conditioning and bring it on a down to down basis and it's hard to do that with millions of dollars in your back pocket. So hopefully Ivie and Carrell make them earn it.

^^^Yep...If the young guy is as good he wins. He doesn't have to be better than a vet, but just as good to win.

I see what you're saying. I just think it's more likely that Ivie and Carrell's effort push Paea and Thornton to be the best versions of themselves than it is that either of them play at the same level as the guys we've already signed. But if the coaches feel like they can better play out of their rookies than their vets, by all means, keep the rookies.

FWIW I actually like Carrell better than Ivie. Ivie is built more like an OL, Carell looks like Terrell McClain.

Ivie is going to be a fan favorite. He's the type of player your root for.

Stephen Jones confirmed today that Ivie was Rod's pick.

I will sig bet anyone that he makes the 53 - barring injury.
