it should be a tradition to draft the most athletic edge rusher left in the 7th round.

i hope either him or weatherly can contribute down the road.

Could be a scary tandem with Danielle Hunter in a couple years

Didn't realize he was a 5th year senior. Same HS class as Stefon Diggs.

Ifeadi Odenigbo only started 5 career games (out of 50) and finished with 23.5 sacks, 26.5 tackles for loss and 5 forced fumbles.

Odenigbo: “A lot of people doubted my capabilities, and I stayed focused and I had a plan. I’m not going to get complacent and I plan on having that same plan once I get to the NFL. Anyone can get drafted. It says a lot about you if you can make it through and have a long career."

Is there more hype surrounding him or Stephen Weatherly from last year?

The 7th round seem to be a sweet spot for Spielman to draft raw and athletic edge players. We've gone this route consistently. It would be nice to see one of them stick over the long term.

Odenigbo looks like a player that could really develop into something special. Elijah Lee has all the makings of a special teams start and starter at WLB. I'm a big fan of his 7th round picks.

Just the thought of this guy and Everson together cracks me up. Both are hyper active.

I'm definitely more excited about him over Weatherly, however, Weatherly checks a few more boxes, he's a force player and was an actual starter on his college team.

Ifeadi was born in New Jersey, and the family also briefly lived in Decatur, Illinois.

Centerville, where their football lives begrudgingly began, didn’t become home until Ifeadi was in first grade. Somto wasn’t allowed to play; Linda and Thomas preferred track, soccer and baseball.

“But [Ifeadi] wouldn’t take no for an answer,” Linda said.

So he struck a deal with his father: Finish with a 3.5 grade-point average or better his freshman year, and he could play football the next season.

“My husband said, ‘Oh, don’t worry about it. When they knock him over twice, he’ll quit,’ ” Linda said. “But that’s how he got into football. And he never quit.”

Ifeadi Odenigbo learned the big news — the Minnesota Vikings planned to draft him in the seventh round — while stuck in Chicago traffic with two friends.

That was not the plan. The Centerville High School and Northwestern University graduate figured if he was going to be drafted, it would be in the final four rounds Saturday, so he began the day watching the draft with his parents, Linda and Thomas, and friends at a friend’s house in Chicago.

Odenigbo, a 6-foot-3, 258-pound defensive end, hoped to hear his name called as early as the fifth round. When that didn’t happen, he started to stress. He said he stormed out of the house with his friends and told them to take him anywhere.

“Where are you going?” his mom asked.

“I can’t do this anymore,” he told her.

Defensive end Ifeadi Odenigbo said he experienced a surreal moment earlier this week as the Vikings jumped into OTAs: “It was the first day of OTAs in the locker room and everyone was getting dressed. I was like, ‘Wow, these are my teammates. I’m in the National Football League, and I need to fit in with these guys.’ It was all business. It wasn’t like in high school where guys are like, ‘Rah, rah rah.’ Guys wake up every single day and have a purpose and that’s how it was.”
