So love this pick. And, only cost 5th next yr straight up. No lose really with full slate of comps available in 2018.

For real. Right now we are slated for a 4th and 3 5th rounders...

I'm amazed he fell this far. Glad we got him.

This is the kind of draft that signals that Jerry isn't as involved in the decisions as he used to be. No stupid trades, no throw away picks, no gambles in the 2nd round, no low character guys. It followed the models of the successful teams: due your due diligence, recognize where the strengths of each draft lies, stick to the board, be conservative, let the draft come to you, and make value decisions if players slip. I'm very happy right now.

Overview
People in Ruston will tell you that they loved having Woods on their team for four years, and Conference USA coaches thought enough of his talent to name him first-team All-Conference USA each of the last three seasons. He started ten games as a true freshman and then exploded onto the college football scene in 2014 when making his sixth interception (and second pick-six) of the season in a win over Illinois in the Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl. He ended up with 71 tackles, 3.5 for loss, seven pass breakups, and three forced fumbles. Woods also produced well in 2015 (56 tackles, 7.5 for loss, three INT, three PBU) and 2016 (89 tackles, 6.5 for loss, five INT, 6 PBU) all-conference campaigns.

Now you know...

Dang, a 4 year starter with that kind of production and good measurables in the 6th? I know lots of Cowboys Twitter people were high on him, but I didn't know he had that kind of playmaking track record.

I love how much position flex we have in the secondary now, should make it much harder for QBs to read. And I'm totally cool with giving up next year's 5th considering some were mocking Woods to us in the 4th and we're gonna have multiple 5th round comp picks anyway.

Considering how little capital we had to begin with (bottom-5 picks in each round and no 5th rounder or comp picks), we're killing this draft.

Great pick! I was talking about Woods in teh 3rd round and we ended up getting him 3 rounds later. This could be a steal. Do you guys think he is a SS or FS?

Amazing draft, filled every position we needed with BPA for the position. They made smart decisions and didn't get antsy.

No front office I trust more currently.

Agree. Our secondary over the last 3 season has been completely remade. We are going to have some growing pains back there this year but the future looks fantastic.

Byron, Brown, Azuzie, Lewis, White, Woods, all under 25 years old.

I am very happy with this pick. Goodness we sought to re-make our secondary and in this deep draft we did.

Yep. I honestly think in a normal draft a guy like Xavier Woods would be a 3rd round pick all day. I also think Jourdan Lewis would have gone in the 2nd no doubt but obviously the red flag dropped him down. If everything pans out in that regard wow, what a great draft. I'm so excited for the season now!

Shocked he wasn't more in demand. Elite production, tested great as an athlete, durable, leadership, intelligence, and no off the field issues.

What are we missing? Love this pick.

All I can think of is it's such a deep draft especially in the secondary. He may have just fell through the cracks and we got a little lucky.

CB - Anthony Brown
CB - Chidobe Awuzie
CB - Jourdan Lewis
S - Byron Jones
S - Jeff Heath
S - Xavier Woods
S - Kavon Frazier

None of them over 25 or under contract for less than three seasons.

That's a group to feel pretty good about.
