Fills a big void left by Hankins. Big boy up front.

Pro comparison is Hankins. 2nd round, big, run stopping DT. Really nothing that can be said here that hasn't been said before about Hankins and Joseph. Which is a good thing. I like it.

Honestly a little bit underwhelming of a pick after our sexy first round pick. I was hoping for offensive line and running back on day two, and if we did go DT I was hoping it would be more of a passrushing type. Tomlinson is described as more of a run stuffer, which is nice for when we play the Cowboys. But I think that with Snacks in the middle we could have gotten by rotating Bromely and Thomas at the other DT spot.

That said, Tomlinson looks like a defensive tackle. Just look at that mug. Great wrestler, which is a trait i like in linemen. Another guy that is described as extraordinarily smart - turned down an academic scholarship from Harvard. That's kind of a double edged sword though IMO. Sometimes these smart guys realize the long term effects of the damage they're doing to their bodies, and that they can make a good living doing something else.

I agree with everything here. Love when my linemen are former wrestlers. Once you've wrestled, everything else in life is easy. I'm with you on the intelligence thing too, but he went to Bama after turning down Harvard. You can't go to Bama and not love football.

Tomlinson is very similar to Hankins, but he fits the 3tech role much better than Hankins does. He's got a lot more value on passing downs than Hankins did, even though he is primarily a run stuffer. Giants don't value penetrating 3techs it seems. It makes sense though, as on 3rd downs they almost always have a 4 DE line out there, which they prefer over staying in base and trying to have DTs who can do it all.
