Had him rated near the top of the 2nd round, so I am a fan. Had a few other guys I had slight preference for, but I had Awuzie rated similarly to them, so no big difference there.

Very athletic guy and fluid in his movements. I am stoked with what we have done so far.

Seee, I told you we could draft a promising DE 1st and still get a solid CB/DB in RD2.

Saw his name pretty high in mock drafts for awhile there, I know a lot of people on this site like him. I am pretty happy with it

Good pick. Solid tackler. Not a lot of turnovers though. Did force 6 fumbles at CU and had 9 sacks.

Saw a couple sites have him as a safety or a guy that could play both. I like him as a prospect.

Also worth noting that he has experience playing both outside and in the slot. Should be useful for us.

Quote:
STRENGTHS: Lockdown corner and fluid athlete with terrific awareness for the position. Good closing speed and times his leaps well to break up receptions. Four-year starter with extensive experience coming out of the competitive Pac-12.

WEAKNESSES:

^^^ They had him as a1st rounder

Quote:
Draft Projection Rounds 1-2
NFL Comparison Prince Amukamara
Bottom Line Sticky man-cover corner who possesses the reactive athleticism and foot quickness to maintain coverage responsibilities around the field. Awuzie's combination of size and speed pairs well with his instincts providing him what he needs to compete downfield. His inconsistencies as a tackler could turn off some teams, but his abilities as a gunner on special teams may counter that. He can play outside or in the slot and has traits and talent to compete for early playing time.

Chidobe Awuzie, CB, Colorado
Height: 6-0. Weight: 205. Arm: 30.63.
40 Time: 4.43.
Projected Round (2017): 1-3.
4/26/17: In this analyst's opinion, Awuzie is a mid-rounder, but there are some teams that really like him and are considering him in the first round. In my opinion, Awuzie gives up separation too often, is beaten for 50-50 passes, and doesn't play up to his size/speed combination. However, there are teams that like him because he is tough and does pretty well in zone coverage. On the year, Awuzie notched 65 tackles with 12 passes broken up, one interception and four sacks. He played well at times for the Buffaloes, but was torched in the finale against Oklahoma State to the point that teammate Akhello Witherspoon was assigned to Cowboys wide out James Washington. Awuzie earned an invitation to the Senior Bowl, where he didn't really impress.

Despite all the varying opinions on here, I can't see anyone being too upset thus far. In fact overall the draft has been optimistically positive IMO.

Has the thought process been justified? Quality DB will be available at 60 but a similar quality DE may not be. Take the DE at 28 land a solid db at 60. I would say good job.

I like his tenacity; he is not just a CB, he is a "football" player. I also like that he has some versatility to his game: blitzing, playing nickle, competing in the run game etc. . .

I don't like his ball skills. He plays the receiver. He has alot of the same qualities as Scandrick IMO.

Looking like all the rest of the quality safeties are tapped out. Maybe another pass-rusher since there seem to be many left.

Nothing spectacular but 2 solid picks imo. Filled two needs albeit with high floor low ceiling players. We've added depth at two positions of need with 2 players that I think can compete for game snaps immediately. Can't ask for more much more than that picking at the end of rounds and standing pat. If we can continue to catch lightning in a bottle in the later rounds as this staff has been able to do in recent years, this is lining up to be a solid while not spectacular draft. That is really the best we could hope for at this point of the process.

Off topic my biggest interest this off season will be in Jaylon Smith. If he is even 80% of what he was at ND he will have an immediate impact. I think either way the defense is still another year away but we should field a better team than we did last year. Trust the process....

Yeah, I think so. The DE line up when we were at our 2nd pick was barren. The FO did it right.
