Randy Moss wore 18. OBJ started the trend of looking like a moron. |
I think Larry kinda started it in '04. _________________

12, 14, 16, 86, 87 are ugly receiver numbers to me. 12 being the worst and 87 just because its cursed in Tennessee _________________

I doubt these rookie mini camp numbers are permanent. I expect Mahomes to transition to a single digit number by the time week 1 rolls around. |

I think Larry kinda started it in '04. | Keyshawn Johnson all the way back to 1996. I'm sure there was someone from an older era that wore a teen number 2, but Keyshawn is the first of the modern era I can recall. Considering he was a #1 overall pick, it's not like they were just out of numbers in the 80s. But yeah there have been a ton of WRs in the teens since the early 00's definitely not a trend started by a 3rd year WR. _________________

Keyshawn seemed to be the only big name receiver who wore a number in the teens for a long time. I think it was both Larry Fitzgerald and Roy Williams coming out in the 2004 draft which made the trend more palatable to the next generation of top receivers. In the very next draft, Braylon Edwards wore 17 and then Santonio Holmes wore 10 in 2006. Fast-forward to today, and it's expected for top receivers to wear numbers in the teens as they're closer to home to the single digit numbers receivers wear in college. Seeing this year's top receivers return to the 80s is refreshing, but I don't expect it to be the trend going forward. |

Right, I mean ya there were players who had numbers in the teens before Larry and even Keyshawn, but it didnt really seem to become a trend until Larry did it. I dont recall many between Keyshawn and Larry but there's been a ton since Larry took 11 in '04. I could be wrong tho. Thats just how memory serves. _________________

Plus it's his college number 5 + 10(where he was drafted) _________________

You can almost assuredly put Mike Williams down for #11. He already stated he doesn't want a number in the 80's so that leaves...
10 - Kellen Clemens
11 - Geremy Davis
12 - Travis Benjamin
13 - Keenan Allen
14 - Dan Fouts (ret)
15 - Dontrelle Inman
16 - Tyrell Williams
17 - Philip Rivers
18 - Available to my knowledge so if he wanted it, he would have it by now
19 - Lance Alworth (I don't think they issue it anymore)
Davis is a long shot to make this team. Seems like the most obvious to me |
