Shanny indicated that Foster missing the season would be worst case scenario, but it shouldn't affect him long term. So it does appear to me like the more accurate reports are the ones that are indicating that the surgery didn't take well.

I think we end up putting him on IR for the year. There's absolutely no reason to rush him out there if it's not fully healthy. With health, I'd err on the side of caution.

I don't know if you heard the interview or not but he never mentioned missing the entire season or the IR for the entire year. He said he might miss some time but even now and everything that they evaluated before indicates that he is healing nicely and is projected to be ready for the season.

This is what is being reported:

"The worst-case scenario is the shoulder doesn't heal correctly and you've got to do it again," Shanahan said. "When you have to do it again, you have to get another surgery, and so it would be tough to play this year, and you'd end up having him the next year."

So yeah, he didn't say that verbatim, but he admits that it would be tough to play this year, which I would take as missing the entire season.

I don't know the entire context but I listened to the full interview when it originally aired and there was 0 indication of shanahan backing any of these claims made by schefter and Lombardi so that's all I'm getting at. He had surgery and in the process of recovering, I don't think the speculation that his shoulder isn't taking has much evidence to back it up.
