I trust our FO, they have done really really well lately. The fact that DBs and S still seem plentiful in the 2nd helps as well.

The A quadrant (top right) is where you shoud find the players most likely to succeed at the NFL level. They have a strong track record of production and have the pre-requisite athleticism that should allow them to compete at the NFL level. Six defensive ends from this year's draft class populate this quadrant, which makes this a solid DE draft class.

Taco is one of the 6 Sparq DE's.

I know a lot of people aren't the biggest fans, so I guess I am in the minority. I love the pick. Had him right after Barnett as the #4 edge player in the class. He is the guy I was hoping we would get. Feel like he has a body that is NFL ready and feel he instantly is the most talented edge guy we have (note: did not say best as of yet). Like his combo of size and length and also liked that he improved every year at UM, especially when Michigan shifted from a 3 to 4 man front in his junior year.

And I also trust our scouting and our defensive staff. If they like him, than that makes me like the pick more.

Absolutely love the pick. A-grade for me at our spot.

I'm okay with the pick. I wanted DE in the first and got it. Taco isn't a sparq beast but has good upside. We need Players who can beat the hell out of opposing QBs.

Love it. Should help out the pass rush greatly.

I honestly don't think this team can evaluate edge guys well.

I'll have to go with that. I whiffed on Dak by miles. So what do I know. That said, of the top tier DEs, Taco was last. DB, Njoku...not thrilled.

I can't believe we get Taco and the Steelers get TJ Watt smh

All you have to do is watch Taco run the 40 and you'll know he isn't the answer at DE

Quote:
COMPARES TO: Justin Tuck -- Similar to Tuck when he entered the NFL out of Notre Dame, Charlton has a large and long body type with the body flexibility and strength potential to be grow into an above average defensive end in a four-man front.

Draft Projection Round 1
Sources Tell Us "Really, really talented player. You won't always see it on every play so that is going to be a coach's job to get that out of him. Rushers with his size and athleticism are hard to find and they usually go very early in the draft." -- AFC executive
NFL Comparison Chandler Jones
Bottom Line "Inconsistent" has been the buzzword that has followed Charlton since coming to Michigan, but he began the process of shaking it during his senior season. Charlton is an ascending prospect with the size, length, athleticism and pass-rushing potential that NFL general managers dream of. What you see today might not be what you get. While his production coming out of college will be modest, he could become a substantially better player as a pro if he's committed to the weight room and willing to absorb coaching. High-impact defensive end with all-pro potential is his ceiling. His floor is solid starter.

Quote:
Taco Charlton, DE, Michigan
Height: 6-6. Weight: 277. Arm: 34.25.
40 Time: 4.92.
Projected Round (2017): 1.
4/26/17: Sources have said that Charlton should go in the top half of the first round and has a shot at going in the top 10. He has an excellent skill set with athletic upside for the NFL. Numerous scouts have compared Charlton to Carlos Dunlap and think he could be that kind of edge defender. If Charlton slides in the first round, it will be because of some concerns from his medical evaluation.

Entering the 2016 season, Charlton flashed for Michigan but was mainly a backup and also was used inside at tackle. In 2016 though, he had 9.5 sacks, 43 tackles and 13 tackles for a loss as the bookend defensive end with the impressive Chris Wormley. Charlton is athletic with versatile size to be a base end in a 4-3 defense or a standup linebacker in a 3-4. He is a fast defender with athleticism and some functional strength.

I think we got value at a position of need. Not bad. I trust this front office. Charlton progressed at Michigan and performed best in a 4 man front. He looks the part. A lot of "experts" had him going higher than 28. It's a deep draft at DB.

I'm not big on immediate draft grades but Walter Football gave us an A-. We will see.

Do we take a risk in round 2 i.e. another injury pick?

Should have our pick of some solid CB prospects in Round 2. Possibly some safeties as well. This draft is excellent in that it is deep at positions we need. Maybe even a RT?

Thank god he doesn't have to run 40 yards to get to the QB

Got to think DB's are the target in round 2. Still a lot of talented guys on the board.
