Weeeee!

Think he's going to be a play-maker. Good addition to the offense.

I think he's a good player - the most well rounded RB by far in the draft.

Pick is a little high imo

Most rounded RB? McCaf, is nothing more than a slot WR that can play RB in a pinch. No way is he a 3 down RB.

I gave the pick a C

https://twitter.com/Panthers/status/857770739767922688

McCaffrey wasn't even alive when the Panthers played their first game. Holy [inappropriate/removed].

Here are some tweets:

DG on McCaffrey: “He’s a young man who has a pro approach already.”
DG: He’s a guy we targeted, we’re happy to get him and the good Lord was smiling down on us.
RR: McCaffrey will be a punt returner, too
DG: I have no question about McCaffrey’s durability.
DG, asked who McCaffrey reminds him of, says Curtis Martin.
DG on McCaffrey’s hands: “He’s got suction cups on the ends of his wrists … there’s not many cats that do what he does.”
RR says Lance Taylor told Panthers’ staffers that McCaffrey “has Luke’s DNA.”
DG said he watched every single one of McCaffrey’s touches from the past two seasons.
Asked if he considered moving back: “There’s been a lot of action. And we said no.”
Gettleman: "Christian has elite skills - running, vision, patience, receiving skills. So much value there. He was a guy we targeted."
Rivera: "You can get the ball in McCaffrey's hands in many different ways, and quickly. He is really going to help our QB."

Several Panthers evaluators compared McCaffrey's work ethic & drive to Kuechly. His athletic ability, versatility and instincts wowed them.
Gettleman says Hall of Famer Curtis Martin had best tackle-box running ability he's ever seen. He thinks McCaffrey is close to that level.

CMac quotes
“As soon as I touched down in Charlotte, it was one of the coolest places I have ever been to.”
McCaffrey said his visit to Charlotte in pre-draft process was something special, including his time with Mr. and Mrs. Richardson.
Christian McCaffrey, on conference call: “Excited is an understatement … I’m just so thankful they’ve trusted me with the 8th pick.”
McCaffrey on position: "I'm a football player."
McCaffrey's first thought on playing with Cam Newton: "I smiled."

IMO he's a rich mans sproles/woodhead which is a good thing. those guys can swing games and mccaffrey can run the ball between the tackles and at this point has no durability concerns either.

I think it's belabored, by now, that I am not in love with this player.

I support the team, though, so I hope he is the next LT.

side note - I didn't grade the F... I woulda given a C or D.

Gawd, I thought Adams was gonna fall to us too...

Quote:
When speaking about first-rounder Christian McCaffrey, Panthers GM Dave Gettleman compared him to Hall of Fame RB Curtis Martin.

"It doesn’t happen very often," Gettleman said. "The best tackle-box runner I’ve ever seen is Curtis Martin out of Pitt. Christian is right there with him. Running in that tackle box takes unique vision and unique quickness, and he’s got it. Curtis had it, and he had a great career – a Hall of Fame career – and this kid’s got those kind of skills." That's a lofty comparison. Carolina has talked about "evolving" as an offense all offseason, trying to take some pressure off Cam Newton, and McCaffrey's unique skill set should allow it to happen.

Gettleman and I agree here. The Curtis Martin comparisons are lofty but accurate.

This one's fun. This video is eye-popping in one particular section - change of direction. His ability to change direction and laterally move inside two tenths of a second is astounding.

As I learned from Deadliest Warrior (RIP), clocking the most rapid reaction human beings on the planet, the absolute best a human being can do is read/see what is happening (one tenth of a second), and react to it (one tenth of a second). Which means, in theory, it is literally physically impossible to account for McCaffrey's change of direction if you don't anticipate it correctly.

That, my friends, is staggering.

I genuinely think McCaffrey's floor is still being one of the best dual-threat backs in the league. A chance exists that he might not live up to the #8 selection, but I simply can't fathom seeing him flat-out bust. Quite frankly, he brings too much talent and skill to the table. Route running, catching, agility, vision, acceleration, speed, work ethic, leadership. McCaffrey has been bred for this moment since the day he was born. Coaches adore him.

This was an excellent pick and I have no doubt that he will prove his detractors wrong. I couldn't be more excited.

First, I want to congratulate you guys on this pick. This guy is a freakin' STUD, and I was so excited when he was consistently being mocked to go to the Giants a few months ago. But after people inevitably started to realize how talented he was, of course he kept rising and rising Crying or Very sad . I'm super jealous. When you watch him play, he is a flat out playmaker and has incredible vision and instincts. He's similar to OBJ in that aspect. I was envisioning those two terrorizing defenses for a long time together. In fact, look at their combine numbers side by side:

They're almost identical... and I know you guys have all seen how explosive OBJ is. So yeah, this kid is going to be special. I'm going to get super depressed every time we play you guys and he tears us up Sad
