Great trade. Gain three picks including two third rounders just to move down one spot. Damn.

Outside of Garrett, I haven't followed any of the draft stuff so I'll ask, is Thomas worth the 3rd overall draft pick? And where will he as well as Buckner and Armstead play on the DL?

First I would like to thank Lynch for not picking a QB...

Now with that out of the way, GREAT trade back, AWESOME pick Applause

Thomas was my guy before Brock was released. Its clear Brock's departure didn't sway their board one bit and they took the guy they would have taken had Brock still been a Niner.

But acquiring extra picks was gold(pun intended) and we now have the ability to really get some gems in the third. I'm loving Lynch right now...

Good with this pick. #5 on my board, but in my second tier along with Adams and the like. The fact that we grabbed an early 3 and 4 and a future 3 just makes it even more sweet

I think he and Derek Barnett might end up being better than Myles Garrett. Thomas isn't that far from Garrett in terms of size and athleticism. Neither of them have the polish and pass rush skills Barnett has, but it can be learned. I hope the speed Thomas will show in the NFL is closer to his 4.69 than to what he seemed to show on tape. There are a few variables we don't really know about. Was he playing at 273 at Stanford, or heavier? I know most people see him as a 5-tech, but I hope we try him at Leo. Or better yet, at both. If there's one thing that I love more than a player who can do his job, it's a player who can do several.

This isn't the most exciting pick, for me. I feel it's a very safe pick. We know we're getting a very good player, no matter what. And we're getting picks on top of that. It would have been a mistake for a rookie GM and HC to tie their fate to a rookie QB in the top 5 in a weak class. I personally hope we don't add a QB until at least the third. I'm okay with a safe draft. Build a solid foundation. Let the rookie GM and rookie HC get used to their jobs, grow a little more confident in their abilities, then go get that QB.

I just wish we still had tomsula for him. He's only 20, i expect him to gain weight, and he's already an athletic freak for his size. Lots of ceiling there

Very happy with the pick and it goes without saying a great trade. A DL of Thomas, Armstead, Mitchell, Buckner is going to be the strength of this defense for a long time.

If we can add a SAM LB who can also get after the QB in the 2nd (Bowser, Watt, Rivers) not only is our pass rush greatly improved but I also think our run stopping ability will be greatly improved which was arguably as bad as our pass rushing production.

Weren't you one of the people arguing with me about just this? Saying boards should be changed when we lose guys like Brock? I know y2 was one of the people and thought you were one as well.

Anyways, I agree. Lynch played this perfectly to stock pile draft picks while getting the guy he wanted all along.
