Barring someone unexpectedly falling, what else do you want at 30?

There weren't any true "slam dunk" prospects left on the board.

The area between end of first rounder and second rounder isn't that big. We hate certain picks that turn out great, we love certain picks that turn out to be busts. At this point, I've learned to trust in the process and to not get too worked up over the draft.

I seriously think he would have been there at 33 or 34. So with teams wanting to hop up into the 28-32 range a trade down was the answer. Too bad Colbert is so adverse to it to the point he has NEVER traded down to stockpile picks. He needs to think about it to give us ammo to hop up in the draft should Ben decide to retire suddenly.

Also unless you are also a Sixers fan you should find a new phrase. That's ours. Wink TTP

A extra 4th rd pick isn't gonna be a deal breaker in a big trade up for a qb.

Plus, if you like the player that much, why risk him getting snatched up?

You never know. Who's to say it's for a future year. Maybe you get that 4th, use our 2nd and 4th to move up in the 2nd. Or the 3rd and 4th to move up in the 3rd.

And I've never heard of having extra picks as a bad thing.

Still doesn't negate the fact they didn't think it was worth the risk of potentially losing Watt.

I'm sure Colbert knows more picks are better(duh) but again it wasn't worth the risk.

I don;t think he does. Colbert I don't think has ever moved down in the draft. It's a guy that doesn't move a while lot, and I personally think it's a problem, especially the lack of moving down.

Hahahahaha.

Jones' only chance is to go to Tenn. Otherwise he is flipping burgers this fall.

The Steelers aren't going to trade down in this draft. No value. They will trade up tonight.

Book it.

Colbert traded a 2nd for 2 3rds about 7-8 years ago...I remember this cause I'm pretty S Anthony Smith was one of those picks.

They have said it numerous times....if there is someone they like, they arent going to trade down. The only time they will trade down is if there are several players at the top of their board that they feel they can move down and still get....which is probably why we dont trade down much.

Love it or hate it, the Steelers have a draft board that they stay incredibly true to.

Traded down in round one in 2001 and in the second round in 2006 and 2009. He doesn't trade down often, but I would also rather them make sure they get their guy.

No one knows if there was a push by other teams to try to get Watt. Maybe he is gone a pick or two later if the Steelers don't get him.

Huh?

This draft is pretty deep at several positions.

But I dont think they want 10+ picks. We arent a rebuilding team, so we dont need that many.

I could see us trading up....moreso in the 3rd than in the 2nd....unless there is someone they are very high on.

I can see both 3rds coming up for another late 2nd or real early 3rd.

The Steelers want starters. Not back ups.

Has nothing to do with the prospects; it's matter of who they can get and start.

Good news is, if they can trade up, they will use the compensatory pick to trade up which means no quarterback tonight. They do really like Bubba Baker, not as much as other teams. If they are able to succeed that they will target a receiver in 2nd round. Whether that's a receiver or tight end.

First two rounds will be for the starters, 3rd round would be a specialist (I.E. red zone weapon).

The rest will be developmental prospects and special team players.

Last year proved the need for better depth. So I stopped reading here.

Cool story, bro. Let me guess, you think the Steelers don't need starters?

He never said that....but you need depth as well.

We have 3 picks on day 2. That will be 4 players with definite eventual starter capabilities...maybe even immediate. You do realize our first 3 picks of last years draft played huge roles last year, right?

I dont have an issue trading up for the right player. However, everyone has a different opinion on what the "right player" is.

I personally dont think there are currently any DBs worth trading up for....at least not a 2nd and a 3rd. I think there are still alot of talented pass rushers left. I just dont see anyone I think is worth trading our 2nd and 3rd to move up for. And seeing as how those picks are at the end of each round, its not going to move us up much in the 2nd.

Like I said, I see more of a possibility of us trading up in the 3rd.

Kinda exactly what I'm thinking. There's 3 picks tonight. Use the three, even if one of them will be depth right now and won't turn into a starter for a while.

I personally think too much was made from how the Pats beat us. Yes we didn't get there, but there was certain depth issues that hurt us. Like the lack of secondary depth. The lack of RB and WR depth. The lack of DL depth. That all hurt us, so while we need starters (IMO CB is about one of the few we'll fill out), some depth is needed too.

I wonder if he will wear #42 like he did in college?
