I voted Mahomes. He can sit a year behind Palmer and then take over.

I feel like Arizona is at a bit of a crossroads with this pick.

On one hand, they can go for immediate help on the defense and look to grab a second corner opposite Peterson in Humphrey, or an inside linebacker like Hasson Reddick (who probably should be added to future polls). Maybe even look at Lamp here to play opposite Iupati.

On the other, both Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald hinted about considering retirement. They both came back, but once that seed is planted, the clock starts ticking.

In trying to figure it out, I wandered by azcardinals.com and they have CB as a high need, WR as medium need, and LB as low need (they even admit that Karlos Dansby is a stopgap signing), along with a couple of articles about QB (without mentioning need). While I want to go with Humphrey here, the corner situation is deep and you are looking for a #2. So, I'm going to go Corey Davis here. I think that you can convince Palmer to come back for one more hurrah, but I wonder about Fitzgerald. Personally, if they went QB here and I could completely understand it, I would go for Kizer over Mahomes. Taking a Big XII quarterback (especially a Texas Tech one) generally does not pan out in the NFL (*). And I understand the idea of taking a QB when you are in position to take a QB; Arizona probably believes (not unreasonably) that they are going be out of position next draft (they underperformed this past season, so a reversion to the mean would put them back in the playoffs).

Still, I go WR here.

(*) Arguably the best QBs to come out of the Big XII in the free agency era are Ryan Tannehill (before Texas A&M split for the SEC), Sam Bradford, Robert Griffin III, and maybe Kordell Stewart, Vince Young & Josh Freeman. Andy Dalton played at TCU before they were in Big XII, so if he counts, he would be the most successful. Marc Bulger came out of West Virginia, but that was back when they were in the Big East. Not exactly murderer's row there.

DeShone Kizer. It's been reported that Arians likes him.
