Quote:
Panthers re-signed DT Kawann Short to a five-year, $80 million contract.
Short had yet to sign his franchise tag, and the two sides beat the July deadline with ease. At $16 million per year, Short becomes the league's third-highest-paid 4-3 defensive tackle behind Ndamukong Suh and Fletcher Cox. Short was said to be seeking $17-19 million annually. With Short now locked up through 2021, the Panthers could be forced to let fellow DT Star Lotulelei walk as a free agent next spring. Carolina used a first-rounder on DT Vernon Butler last year. Short was Pro Football Focus' No. 3 defensive tackle last season behind Aaron Donald and Suh.

Thrilled we got him extended.

Big contract, hard to argue it's a bad one though.

Good for Short, good for the Panthers.

Those are some big numbers but he's a big-time superstar so it had to be done. Hopefully for the Panthers he lives up to it.

Good deal for the team. He should be making more than Cox IMO.

Who's going to be first to break Suh's record?

Aaron Donald?

Agreed. They kinda got a steal if you compare it to Cox's contract. Short is a better player then Cox at just about every thing.

Donald probably will if the Rams put themselves in the same situation the Lions did with Suh and allow him to hit the open market. If Donald values security over dollars he might sign a slightly cheaper extension before he hits FA.

Unfortunately Mack might. He will probably be the highest paid defensive player, while Carr could be the highest QB. Confused

Good keep for Carolina. Short's a pretty good defensive player.

Wow.. I'm happy but I can't believe this got done. I was positive Short was gone.

Guess this means Lotulelei is probably on his way out. No way we keep Short, Star, and Butler.

Why? Butler is literally dirt cheap the next three years. Team option will cramp up space maybe but maybe we can dump Short by then.

It's a strange new concept that hasn't been realized for decades in Oakland.

And one they won't get to finally cherish for much longer. Sad
