It's a kinda crappy thing to do but what a non-story. Happened 7 years ago and it was just two helmets. Probably was obligated in some way to get the helmets, but didn't have any, so got some from the equipment manager.

The problem is it's not just that Eli/the Giants gave him fake stuff. The Giants also apparently screwed the guy over a few years back.

Quote:
The plaintiffs also insist that Manning and his co-defendants engaged in malicious prosecution. The Giants did so, Inselberg asserts, by implicating Inselberg in wrongful activity when the FBI investigated Inselberg and others for memorabilia fraud in 2010. This is also a serious allegation since a grand jury would indicate Inselberg on four counts mail fraud in 2012. Federal prosecutors, however, dismissed the case a year later. Inselberg insists that the defendants pinned the blame for fake memorabilia on Inselberg in order to escape their own criminal prosecution for distributing fraudulent items.

The lawsuit contains still other claims, including that the defendants allegedly libeled Inselberg as a peddler of false goods. Further, the Inselberg insists, the defendants interfered with Inselberg’s capacity to do business by—in Inselberg’s view—falsely implicating him in wrongdoing. In essence, Inselberg reasons, if he is viewed as selling fake goods no one will buy from him.

This was a story 3 years ago too when an actual lawsuit was lobbied against Eli and Joe Skiba, the equipment manager. Nothing ever came of it. No settlement, no hearing, no case, no anything. Don't know why it's being brought up again and I'm just about 100% certain the same result will occurr- nothing.

Yea, I can't think of a good spin on asking for helmets that can "pass as game used".

Not a good look for him.

This is exactly what I meant, albeit my rhetoric was stronger and probably came off the wrong way. I don't think any serious punishment will or really should come of this but it still makes him look like a much bigger prick than anyone ever knew he was.

It just makes Eli and the Giants look like [removed]. It's not a giant concern or anything.

I mean it's possible Skibba thought it was going to be for a commercial or something? It's not exactly unheard of for players to wear an helmet in a commercial and it should ideally look "game used".

For Eli given the timing int he article there is no doubt that he was trying to pull a fast one...

Not sure how your opinion matters in this subject. If Eli committed fraud he obviously duped someone who DOES care about the gear.

The NFL should take their first round pick away at a minimum, and need to launch a full case investigation, before destroying all the evidence after letting certain media members view it.

Pretty much same. Couldn't agree more. Most fan gear is tacky, jerseys always look silly on dudes.
