Per Rap.

Yes, your first thought on the release of #Titans CB Jason McCourty is the same as mine. The #Patriots inquired about a trade in the past...

Hmmm... should have gone harder after another top tier CB in FA if this was the plan. The way it's worded, makes it seem like he's not coming back. Sorry to seem him go, was a solid guy during some really crap years.

His play definitely trailed off, but he's certainly still the 2nd best CB on the roster or open market now. Unless they really, really think Sims is a legit starter would think CB is a lock in round 1 (or 2 if we pick up a pick there).

Wonder if we will try to sign him at a cheaper cost.

Safe to say either CB at 5 or we have a lot of faith in Sims as the number 2

At his best he was better than Sims, but I didnt see any drop off when Sims came on the field for him.

Maybe he comes back after he surveys his market, but hard to imagine someone doesn't offer more than us or he finds a better situation - maybe as a safety even. I think #5 is still BPA if we stay which could be a CB. But no doubt we'll address in the early rounds.

This has no bearing on our first round in my mind. We dont need a CB anymore now than we did yesterday.

Thank God. Dude was literal trash.

Pretty obvious that we take a corner early in the draft.

#Titans wanted to redo Jason McCourty's deal, but sides couldn't agree, source said. Hence, they're releasing him (as @RapSheet said).

John Glennon‏ @glennonsports

.@McCourtyTwins says there was talk about restructuring his deal, but that both sides knew it was time to move on. #Titans

I wouldn't go that far, man. That position has been a dumpster fire for years, and he's had to play across from guys like Blidi Wreh, Perrish Cox, Nick Harper and GD Ryan Mouton his whole career.

Injuries have slowed him down, but we'll be hard pressed to see someone come in from Day 1 and do better than McCourty would have as a #2. Unless Richard Sherman walks through the door, we'll probably be letting up some passing yards again this year.

Thanks to him for everything he did. At one point he was a top 10 CB but those groin injuries effected him big time and just lost a good amount of speed. This needed to happen though. Good luck to him, Class Act

Eh... A lot of people expected him to at least compete for that 2nd spot and even though I thought he was done, our depth gets even worse now. They must think highly of Sims or a CB will be drafted in the 1st.

don't have a problem with this move, but i don't understand why we haven't signed at least one more depth guy

sad to see j-mac go though. class act and a pretty damn good player at the peak of his game.

Well, given our secondary depth and cap situation, this was bound to happen.

Oh, wait... Laughing

For the record, I get it. He was vastly overpaid for what he brings these days.

I don't get why, if this was a real possibility, we didn't go after a second corner in free agency. Nor do I really understand the rush and why we wouldn't at least wait until camp and see if he is still capable of showing something when healthy. Or at least throw him at safety and see what he has.

Our corner situation is what now? Logan Ryan, LeShaun Sims, Brice McCain and a bunch of guys that have never really played in the NFL?

J-Rob has put an insane amount of pressure on himself to hit on immediate contributors in the draft.

In my vision of the team (cuz that's more important than JRob and Mularkey's vision), it affects our S need more. I still had hopes he'd convert and gives us another reliable option at S.

I honestly wasn't expecting too much from him at CB this year... but he still could have offered reliability if/when push come to shove.

Either way, much respect to JMac... he was an outstanding CB... never top echelon, but very good and reliable for a good while... and one of the last great Titan picks from the Fisher era.

Catch ya on the flip side JMac (and you become a good safety next year, I may flip out... Shocked )
