We're now past the point where no FAs (except Blount) count against the compensatory pick formula right?

OverTheCap with a look at the worst FA deals from 2016
Packers earn # 28 for Starks

https://overthecap.com/30-worst-signings-2016

#9. Mario Williams, Dolphins- 2 years, $17 million
"For all the work that goes into scouting, analytics, etc… teams often can’t help themselves when it comes to name talent hitting the market and Miami sunk $8.5 million into a washed up player. Williams started just 5 games and had a career low 1.5 sacks. Miami cut him in the offseason and he is currently unemployed."

depth? I can't see Lindsley moving to Guard. Not with how well he has panned out at Center. Total draft day steal IMHO.

Good luck to a former Packer on his recovery and return to the NFL

Walden, Body, think one other dlineman. ANd they tried to sign Price last year. They like what we are doing, so its a nice compliment at least.

Ya I don't see him playing Guard at all, gotta just be for depth behind him, and hopefully Barclay won't make the team. Laughing

some cap clearing moves add a few more players to the game of NFL musical chairs

Eric Decker
Jeremy Maclin
David Harris

Likely a few more cuts to come in June/July.
Then it gets real for the guys on the street as TC opens up across the league

Ladarius Green #12 on that list. Glad Ted went with Cook instead.

Still want a pass rusher, so hopefully somebody gets cut that still has something to offer, much like Peppers was cut by Chicago.

If it was going to happen it would have already.

To be fair, Matthews was playing hurt towards the tail end of last year, hence the underwhelming stats.

I'd say we let a (hopefully) fully-healthy season play out before we decide to pull the plug on him.

Though we did draft a guy with a similar skill set in Biegel as a sort-of insurance policy. I don't know if he'll have anything meaningful to offer in year one, though.

games played by clay per year
2009: 13
2010: 15
2011: 15
2012: 12
2013: 11
2014: 16
2015: 16
2016: 9 ( maybe 12)

Perry per year
2012: 6
2013: 12?
2014: 17
2015: 16
2016: 17

Tough to actual figure out who missed how much specifically with Perrys early years when he was a back up. But is it possible that the always injured label gets thrown around too much. Heck according to the sites I was one Clay played back to back seasons healthy before this year, we should almost be talking about how last year was the fluke and it will not happen again. And is missing a game or two that big of a deal if they have a pass rush impact when they are healthy

No, the always injured label doesn't get thrown around too much. What that information fails to provide is whether or not they played injured. Perry played half the year last year with a club on his arm (he only played 14 games last year in the regular season, so that information is wrong if you're counting regular season games).

Matthews played half the year last year injured.

Clay Matthews is consistently playing hurt. Whether it was the hamstring from two years ago or the shoulder from this year, he's very often playing hurt, and it's not unreasonable to be uneasy about those two players being our only proven pass rushing commodities going into this season.
