Per Rapaport a moment ago, Tony Romo to retire.

I thought he was looking around for possible landing spots before Jerry put a stop to his release. Not the best way to treat a franchise legend IMO.

I agree. They just wouldn't let him look around and kept holding him on the trading block even though it seemed pretty clear that Romo wanted to play for another team as a starter.

I'm genuinely surprised. I know that there was a lot of talk about his other offers (TV/broadcasting), but I thought he'd continue to play. I guess this must pretty much cement it that his body just has nothing left in the tank.

Good for him. Life is more important then the game. He's had so many devastating injuries he needs to worry about quality of life now. I'll always despise the Cowboys QB no matter who it is. And no secret I was one of his biggest detractors on this forum. But there was no denying Romo was an elite player at times and a stand up guy all the time. He made it awful hard for me to "hate him" which I never really did. Just glad he never got a ring. Razz

Wow, shocking. Thought he definitely had a few years left. Probably not the worst thing considering the injury issues the past few years

Lol Houston.

I actually like this move for him and began to see it coming once the broadcasting rumors started swirling. Could you imagine him playing one more year and getting injured again? That could break someone's psyche

Wow. He's leaving a lot of money on the table doing this.

Might end up making more in TV, long term.

Without the threat of injury too. Makes sense, still shocking

Good quarterback stuck on a lot of lackluster Dallas teams for quite a few years. Especially defensively. Unfortunate. I still remember when he replaced Drew Bledsoe at halftime during a home game against the Giants in 2006. Romo threw I believe three interceptions in the 2nd half. He struggled, but he was clearly an upgrade. Dallas never looked back. I'm thinking Romo goes down as the third most notable QB in franchise history behind Staubach and Aikman, while being ahead of White and Meredith.

Feels like the Cowboys forced retirement upon him by refusing to release him.

Maybe he's just trying to pull a Favre?

I think this will hurt his chances at the Hall of Fame.

even if he were to unretire, Dallas still holds the rights to his contract.

surprised by this.

Romo isn't going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. ಠ_ಠ
