2017 NFL Off-season

FA Signing-

John Sullivan, C, Redskins- 1 yr $1.5 million

This is a tiny bit of a shot in the dark, but I think we will sign one of the vet FA centers prior to the draft. I just can’t imagine McVay being comfortable with a rookie running the show up front. Sullivan isn’t great by any means, but he was with McVay in Washington so it sort of makes sense I guess.

2017 NFL DRAFT-

Round 2 pick 5) JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, USC

There is no question that a pass catcher (WR/TE) will be taken early, its just a matter of how early. There are a few options, but as I’ve said before, I think JuJu is a legitimate target for the Rams. The value is right, and while he isn’t a burner, he can push it vertical on occasion. He fits the Pierre Garcon role in this offense better than anyone on the roster. 2015 JuJu would’ve been in the running to be a 1st round WR, but a “down” year plagued by injuries cost him about half a round. I don’t think he is or ever will be that “Elite #1 WR” we have been begging for, but he will be a reliable and productive WR for a long time which is more than this roster has at the moment.

Round 3 pick 5) Gerald Everett, TE, South Alabama

There are 3 TE prospects that would all fill the Jordan Reed role very well in Engram, Everett, and Jonnu Smith. However, I think the one MOST similar to Reed in playing style is Everett. He is a little raw which I hate, but the talent in ridiculous. Some of the plays that he makes are ridiculous. He plays with an attitude which is great, but at times it hurts him with penalties or when he gets frustrated not getting the ball—something that really bothers me, but if McVay can coach him up and keep his head in the game he can be quite a player.

Round 4 pick 5) Derek Rivers, EDGE, Youngstown St.

I don’t love Rivers, but he is a freak and the Rams were keeping a close eye on him at the senior bowl so I think its possible at this juncture considering I would say OLB/Edge rusher is our thinnest position at the moment. Rivers is a bit stiff and needs to get stronger at the point of attack against the run, but he showed some serious flashes off the edge as a pass rusher at the senior bowl. He could go earlier than this considering he absolutely killed the combine.

Round 4 comp) David Jones, FS, Richmond

Jones has been a hot name recently after the numbers he posted at his pro day. The Rams brought him in for a private workout and with the need at FS I can see them pulling the trigger here thinking they might not get a chance day 3 to take him. He’s long, instinctive, and fast. Also, he’s a playmaker with the ball in his hands returning multiple int’s/punts for TD’s. I want Joyner to move to FS, but I’m just not quite sure if it’ll happen so we’ll see because the Rams have been doing a lot of homework on safeties lately.

Round 5 pick 5) Chase Roullier, G/C, Wyoming

Not trying to copy you jrry I promise. The Rams have shown interest in Roullier and it makes sense. A proven leader up front for years would likely take a year or two to catch up to the NFL level, but he’s just as good as any of the center prospects in this draft. Unless we jump up to take Lamp, waiting for day 3 is the right play.

Round 6 pick 5) Jamaal Williams, RB, BYU

Williams might not last this long, but I think teams will take runningbacks pretty early in this draft that may leave some quality prospects available a bit later than anticipated. The Rams met with Williams at the senior bowl and I would love for him to be on this roster. While he’s not the fastest RB, vision and yards after contact is his game. He’s a tough runner that offers a quality backup for Gurley.

Round 6 pick 22) Josh Augusta, NT, Mizzou

Another guy the Rams have shown interest in. I think we have adequate talent and depth at both DE spots, but nothing behind Brockers at NT. Augusta has proven he is serious about playing after losing tons of weight after the season. In the 6th round this would be a nice pickup for depth.

Round 7 pick 16) Aarion Penton, CB, Mizzou

Another Mizzou prospect that we have brought in for a private workout. Penton has size and speed limitations, but he is aggressive and is excellent when the ball is in the air. A competitive CB who will ultimately be a solid STer and maybe play some slot corner in a pinch.

Only pick I'm not a fan of is Derek Rivers. I would prefer to use that 4th rounder on a Center or CB. Everything else I'm on board for. Well done.

I would be very happy with this mock. First 3 picks are very solid.

My only concerns are JuJus random injurys that always seem to plague him.

Appreciate the feedback fellas. Just a reminder though that I make mocks based on what I think WILL happen. Likely to change in the weeks to come.

We've shown a lot of interest in Lamp and seeing as were still without a center, I'd love for Snead to move up for him if the price is right.

I couldn't be upset with this outcome, definitely helps the offense out and we certainly need that.

Just FYI, your signature says Corey David, think you probably meant Davis. Wink

I just pulled up last years "Draft Prospect Visit List" and not a single person from that list was actually drafted by us. I'm wondering how much of this actually means anything?

How many of these went before we drafted in the 4th after we gave away all those picks for Goff? (I just wish we could have kept one of the seconds.)

Top 30 visits are always somewhat of an indication.

Years before it mattered. Last year we didnt pick until day 3 otherwise I guarentee it would have mattered.

One of the best CB classes ever and we do nothing with it? I'd be beyond disappointed.

As would I. Like I said, I just do what I think will happen. Hopefully it changes
